5.0 out of 5 stars For Garage Rock, start here!, October 16, 2005
This review is from: Uptight Tonight: Ultimate 60's Garage Collection (Audio CD)
This should be the number one album in the country. This should be on the Trendy Critics Ten best list for the year 2005. And, none of the tracks were recorded later than 1969. Rivals the White Stripes, The Hives, The Donnas, and any other combo you care to name for sheer guitar freakout, great lyrics, and sound. Even though a lot of this was recorded under less than optimal conditions, the Big Beat/Ace sound wizards have worked their usual magic, so the sound is even BETTER than the original listeners could have heard in the 60s. Once you hear this, you will want to start down the path, the path towards Nuggets, Pebbles, Back from the Grave, Teenage Shutdown, and Fuzz, Flaykes and Shakes. Heres hoping VOLUME 2 is equally as killer! Good work Alec Palao!

5.0 out of 5 stars Maybe not the ultimate, but damn close!, January 20, 2006

Stephen Marley (Northern California) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Uptight Tonight: Ultimate 60's Garage Collection (Audio CD)
Excellent compilation CD of Garage Band Punk/Psychedelia from the mid sixties. Many of the nicely remastered tracks are from northern California - which was a hot bed of innovative, garage band music from 1963- 1968. Well crafted liner notes with band member names, interesting details and numerous old PR photos.
There are Twenty Six tracks with attitude - check out the Yardbirds-like rave on Count Five's "Psychotic Reaction" Another winner is the youthful female rage on "Boy, What'll You Do Then" and the undulating bass and drums under feedback looped vocalizations on "Suzy Creamcheese"... very cool.
