My friend bought this movie at walmart for only five dollars. I was skeptical at first but these movies sure won me over. You have to have the right mindset to enjoy these movies. Don't go into it expecting to be amazed with the cinematography or be able to completely understand the plot; go into it expecting a crazy movie with a lot of laughs along the way.

Most of these movies fall under the blaxploitation genre but there are a few gems that are genere-less altogether. Don't buy this unless you have someone to watch it with, it wouldn't be nearly as much fun to watch these movies alone. All in all there are a lot of great blaxploitation movies in here and for the price, you would be hard pressed to find a better way to spend your money.

The movies took me back, but it's hard to compare them to the computerized videos of today!!! So good to see some of the old actors in their early films!!!

The film's are a forgotten treasure... Some movies are better quality than others but for me that just adds to the experience that blaxploitation is.... Looking for movie posters next!

Great collection of blaxploitation films from the early through the end of the era. Seeing Billy Dee Williams, in his youth, was phenomenal. Made me wonder what his WHOLE movie career was like.

Blaxploitation, is the term given to this sub-genre, of Hollywood Cinema. It's critical era was the 1970's, however, 90's "hood" movies could apply to this genre as well. The term is very expansive, and encompasses a long standing legacy, of the black experience. So there are many references to the systematic oppression of black people, Urban empowerment, and the general social unrest of many black people living, in America's urban ghettos. With all this being said, they can seem very stereotypical, but I think that's what happens, when movies are taken out of context. The plots are extreme, and often underdeveloped. In the genre defense, many of these films were made on a shoe string budget, and with NO NAME or "washed" up Actors. The genre should be looked at as the "urban" arm of the spaghetti westerns. Very low budget, high comedic value cinema, with touches of Cinema Verite.

It is critical to understand, the socio-economic impact of these movies. Especially, once "hollywood" began cranking, higher production versions out ( examples: Shaft, Cooley High,The Wiz,Three the hard way, Superfly,Car Wash). These movies, literally took, Hollywood studios out of bankruptcy and back in the black. Since these movies were low cost, high return on investment, films.
The early principle founders, were making movies, strictly out of passion and creative freedom. They never enjoyed the commercial success or recognition, as the large studio productions. So this compilation, features, some of the lesser known titles, that are critical to understanding, why the LIKES OF QUENTIN TARRANTINO ballyhoo, the genre so greatly. It was truly, Indy movies, going head to head with big production firms- AND WINNING.
