Book Description

November 29, 2005
For Chance Bates, life doesn't come with too many certainties. He learned this while growing up in the foster care system, being shifted from one home to the next. What he does know is that only the strong survive, and he is determined to make something of himself and marry the girl of his dreams.

His girl, Patrice Trent, teaches Chance that life is wonderful. She should know. She grew up in an upper-class black family where her opportunities have been abundant. But when her family learns that Chance was born to a mother with a severe mental illness, they are determined that Patrice will not taint their bloodline with the likeness of his family's defective genes.

Meanwhile, after spending years in a mental institution and working to get her life together, Chance's mother Sharon Bates resurfaces to find him just as his life is spiraling out of control. After so many years of not being there for her son, will she now be able to help him, or will her appearance ruin everything he has achieved?

Eventually, they all come to a point where they must take a chance of a lifetime.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overcoming Odds, November 29, 2005

This review is from: Urban Affair (Paperback)
Patrice Trent is a successful Black woman from a well to do family. She's discovered that it's okay to be all work because after all men are just for FUN. Though she wants to stay faithful it's harder to enjoy the benefits she so richly enjoys. Has she cost herself the love of a lifetime? Or is Patrice too busy basking in her fun filled dates to notice.

Chance Bates a scrawny little kid from the projects hungrily hustling to escape his need. An unlocked door will be the key to his moving on up. The life he's chosen is filled with the very best of material things, yet his heart is empty. Was it his past that pulled his love away? With Chance's drive he discovers that he may prove to be his own worse enemy. Will his street tactics prove beneficial?

Sharon Bates constantly has people urging her on what she should or shouldn't do. She tries to ignore them, but it's hard. After a lifetime of so much pain Sharon has finally arrived at the "good part." It just so happens that a chance of a lifetime falls into her life is she able to assist in the transformation?

Urban Affair is a book about odds that each character seems to be caught up in. Tony Lindsay has a rare way of bringing his stories to life. In all likelihood the characters are faced with options, it's up to them to decide which ones are better suited for them.

I am always flipping the pages cheering for the underdogs. Very good story.

5.0 out of 5 stars He did it again!, February 28, 2006

This review is from: Urban Affair (Paperback)
This is the second book I read by Tony Linday, I met the author at my school. The first book I read was Chasin' It, I gave to my mother to read she gave it to my aunt, the book was wild for real but this one wasn't like that, it was wild but it wasn't wild like Chasin' It. This one was a about a young couple and the dude's crazy mama but I undersand why she went crazy, that was foul what happened to her.

I liked the love scenes way more in this one, Patrice just didn't know what she had until it was too late and then she tried to get back with him, I really wasn't feeling his little fling with the boss's daughter though, I was glad Patrice got with her, stood up for the sisters - she was my girl then!

But it turnd out she had been playing Chance all along and she was wrong for that, he loved her too much to get played like that.

I was really happy for Chance's mama and her girl when the went and found a beter life but that the whole little part was kinda spooky for real, this was a good book and I am glad the writer came up to our school.

5.0 out of 5 stars Urban / Street Books, February 14, 2006
This review is from: Urban Affair (Paperback)
This book was more than I expected, bravo to the author. The dateing issues between classes, even within the same race was surprising, the mental illness was just plain scary, the sex scenes were very well develped- when Patrice loses her virginity was one of the most erotic scenes I have read, this guy can write, I found about him through an email, looking for more from him
