Patrice Trent is a successful Black woman from a well to do family. She's discovered that it's okay to be all work because after all men are just for FUN. Though she wants to stay faithful it's harder to enjoy the benefits she so richly enjoys. Has she cost herself the love of a lifetime? Or is Patrice too busy basking in her fun filled dates to notice.

Chance Bates a scrawny little kid from the projects hungrily hustling to escape his need. An unlocked door will be the key to his moving on up. The life he's chosen is filled with the very best of material things, yet his heart is empty. Was it his past that pulled his love away? With Chance's drive he discovers that he may prove to be his own worse enemy. Will his street tactics prove beneficial?

Sharon Bates constantly has people urging her on what she should or shouldn't do. She tries to ignore them, but it's hard. After a lifetime of so much pain Sharon has finally arrived at the "good part." It just so happens that a chance of a lifetime falls into her life is she able to assist in the transformation?

Urban Affair is a book about odds that each character seems to be caught up in. Tony Lindsay has a rare way of bringing his stories to life. In all likelihood the characters are faced with options, it's up to them to decide which ones are better suited for them.

I am always flipping the pages cheering for the underdogs. Very good story.

5.0 out of 5 stars He did it again!, February 28, 2006

This is the second book I read by Tony Linday, I met the author at my school. The first book I read was Chasin' It, I gave to my mother to read she gave it to my aunt, the book was wild for real but this one wasn't like that, it was wild but it wasn't wild like Chasin' It. This one was a about a young couple and the dude's crazy mama but I undersand why she went crazy, that was foul what happened to her.

I liked the love scenes way more in this one, Patrice just didn't know what she had until it was too late and then she tried to get back with him, I really wasn't feeling his little fling with the boss's daughter though, I was glad Patrice got with her, stood up for the sisters - she was my girl then!

But it turnd out she had been playing Chance all along and she was wrong for that, he loved her too much to get played like that.

I was really happy for Chance's mama and her girl when the went and found a beter life but that the whole little part was kinda spooky for real, this was a good book and I am glad the writer came up to our school.

5.0 out of 5 stars Urban / Street Books, February 14, 2006

This book was more than I expected, bravo to the author. The dateing issues between classes, even within the same race was surprising, the mental illness was just plain scary, the sex scenes were very well develped- when Patrice loses her virginity was one of the most erotic scenes I have read, this guy can write, I found about him through an email, looking for more from him

When a poor, foster-system raised Chance meets a bourgeois, "Black Princess" Patrice as teens their paths and lives are destined to pass--over and over again. But Chance had his own problems with his mother's mental illness and her absence from his life, which often clouded his decisions and he finally chose a life of petty crime and drug dealing at a young age. While Patrice was the typical spoiled rich kid, who wants it her way--now! Later they join forces and Patrice shows Chance how to lead a legitimate life. Is their love affair a one-sided romance? But Patrice's family intervened when the romance was escalating and they found out that Chance's mother was a prostitute and his father was a pimp. But all hell broke loose when they realized that his mother was mentally ill, and they did not want him ruining "their" family tree. Ultimately, they break off the relationship. Other life-threatening events happen and Patrice decides that she needs Chance's help and love--again, regardless of what her parents think. Tony Lindsay creates a romantic roller coaster with many "sharp" turns!

4.0 out of 5 stars Complicated Affairs, January 3, 2006
This review is from: Urban Affair (Paperback)
Chance Bates has been a fighter all of his life. He learned from being in the foster care system and on the streets that nothing in life is guaranteed. Chance meets the upper-class Patrice Trent that teaches him that the world is full of opportunities. Chance soon becomes the suitable man that Patrice becomes accustomed to despite her parents' objections. But when her parents find out that Chance's mother has a mental illness, they don't want Patrice anywhere near Chance. In the middle of all this, Chance's mother Sharon comes back into his life. After spending years in a mental institution, Sharon finally has her life back. But is she ready to be the mother that Chance needs her to be?

Urban Affair is an extraordinary novel by Tony Lindsay. This novel is about different layers of relationships. You see the broken relationship of Chance and his mother Sharon. Tony Lindsay does a good job of showing the complex class issue involved with Patrice and Chance's relationship. Urban Affair has unexpected drama and supernatural twists that makes this an exciting read. Tony Lindsay continues to provide unpredictable and thrilling storylines and characters that will delight readers for many years to come.

Chance Bates and Patrice Trent, have been a couple since they were teenagers. Chance grew up in foster care and Patrice in a black upper class family.
Patrice shows him what it's like to have the finer things in life and Chance strives to be the best he can. They planned to get married until Patrice's parents find out that Chance's bloodline is tainted with mental illness. Her parents refuse to let her marry him. They break up but still love each other.

Sharon Bates is a schizophrenic murderer guided at times by the voices in her head. After ending up in prison she is forced to leave her infant son Chance behind and he eventually gets entered into the system. Upon her release Sharon decides to get her life together and after some years she finds out that her son is doing good but will he want her to be a part of his life now?

An interesting story, the author alternates between the past and the present giving the reader a personal tour inside the main characters minds. Tony Linsay did a great job with Chance and Sharon Bates characters. Patrice is selfish, she says Chance wants "all or nothing" and yet she was not willing to give him all. I think Patrice could have been left out of the story completely. I could have read about Sharon Bates for the entire book. I was disappointed with the ending. I felt the author either lost focus or rushed the ending.

On the strength of the Sharon Bates character it's still worth the read and will be a great book club discussion.

4.0 out of 5 stars Crazy but good......, April 8, 2010

It was crazy but the storyline was good. The author did a good job and he stayed on track. It was not the "typical" love story, there were some twists and turns. I appreciated that.

The characters were believable. Sharon and Linda.....words cannot express their situation. I had to laugh at times reading about these two characters. All in all it's a good read.

4.0 out of 5 stars This was really a very well written book!, January 14, 2009
I have to say that this was the first book that I have read by this author. Tony Lindsay is really good. I love his style. Honestly, the only reason this book caught my attention was because of the review that I read about Patrice losing her virginity. Man! That was a really, really, hot love scene! It was so sensual in a thugged out kinda way! (lol) By the way, all of the love/sex scenes were so good! The story was great also! It was slow at times; but, it was a well developed and interesting story. I definitely think that it was unpredictable and I loved Chance. He really had to overcome a lot in his life. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and I am looking forward to reading more books by this author. Keep up the good work.

Urban affair was an incredible story of success. It not only proved that ordinary people from the hood could change their lives, but someone who might be considered handicapped has just as much of a chance regardless of their background.

5.0 out of 5 stars All I Can Say Is GOOOOOD To The Last Drop, June 29, 2006
This review is from: Urban Affair (Paperback)
I have always enjoyed Tony Lindsay. He writes a good story and just when you think you know what is going to happen here comes the SURPRISE. I enjoy books like that, this is a story about Chance and Patrice although they were raised up in two different worlds they fall in love. I thought her family would have become a bigger obstacle in their relationship but it turns out that Patrice is her own worst enemy. Chance I think is just a good man that happens to fall in love with the wrong women. So sit back and let author Tony Lindsay take you into the lives of Chance and Patrice.
