I purchased this because I wanted the two side-by-side compartments (for trash and recycling).

A few things that could use some improvement however:
* the compartments are tall and skinny, making it somewhat tricky to find trash bags that fit
* trash bags are also hard to secure / tie to the plastic liner bin
* Pedal action is not very smooth and results in the lid clanking up against whatever wall the trash cans are placed against

Overall though, price is ok and it is functional enough. Next time, though, I might pay a bit more for a better thought out design.

Seems to be well builtand it is easy to use- Comes with plastic or rubber strings to pull out the cans. Handles are also included. So far my only issue is with finding bio bags to fit inside. They don't seem to be long enough.

We had bought a simple human trash can and were hugely disappointed with the quality for the price. So, we looked at this. I like that both sides are the same and can use a regular sized trashbag. But what makes this trash can a great buy is:
1. There are elastic bands that you can use to help hold the bags up.
2. the tabs on the lid. Each lid has a tab for lifting the lid up. With a step can like this, I don't always use the pedal. Sometimes it's just easier to raise the lid with my hand. This can has a little tab for lifting the lid - genius!
3. the entire step machanism is metal.
4. the trash can plastic inserts have metal handles that you can pull up for lifting the insert out of the can.

After our old trash can broke, we decided to look into a dual can to involve the kids in recycling.

Pros:
- Inexpensive dual canister
- Large compartments to hold kitchen garbage bags
- Sturdy even when empty
- Shipping packaging (lots of it, but product will not arrive damaged)
- Rubber band around each container to help put trash bags in without showing

Cons:
- Bangs loudly when lid shuts (unless you slowly let up on the foot pedal)

Overall, we love this trash can/recycle bin and would buy again!

Trash can fit in the location I had in mind but the lids swung back so far that the hit our countertop. Would have caused dents in the lids so I called the company to return trash can. They were very extremely helpful with my concerns.

One thing people should know off the bat is the inner dimensions of the plastic removable bins. There are two bins side by side, each bin is 8" wide by 10" long at the top, and 25" tall. This is wide enough to put two 1/2 gallon milk cartons side by side. The bins also have round metal pulls on each side that can be pushed down or pulled up to lift the bins out of the main can. One thing I don't like is that the lids do not stay up when you use the foot pedal (unless you keep your foot down on the pedal), and do not stay open on their own if you lift it by hand. Since we do mixed material recycling, we do ALOT of recycling for our family size, so we are actually going to use both sides of the can for recycling. The split can would be good if you were going to turn in your cans or bottles for cash and wanted to keep them separate. I wish this can came as one large single bin option, but I knew what I was buying when I got it, and didn't want to pay $100+ for a larger stainless steel one bin unit. The quality appears good for a product made in China, I think the only concern (other than if the metal will dent easily in the future) is the mechanism that connects the foot pedal to the bin doors, which is what broke on our old unit (different make and manufacturer). Even if that breaks, the plastic handles that extend on the lid make it easy to manually lift the top (unlike our old bin). Overall, good value for the money for a stainless look bin.

*****UPDATE***** FEBRUARY 2011: I don't think they are selling this item anymore, but only after a few months there have been some issues: #1, the plastic that makes up the removable bins is very cheap/BRITTLE. The lip at the top holding the metal handles used to lift the bin out of the stainless steel portion has already broke on both plastic bins. The metal handles are no longer attached, which makes pulling the plastic bins from the unit for emptying more difficult. ALSO, DO NOT DROP the plastic bins, I accidentally dropped an empty bin onto the pavement from about a foot off of the ground and the bottom of the bin cracked with pieces of plastic falling out leaving a small hole!!! This is the problem we had with our other bin. CHEAP CHINESE PLASTIC. BEWARE.

Since our community went to single-stream recycling, I have been looking for a unified trash/recycling receptacle that was not over-the-top expensive(after all it's a trash can) and was good looking. This fit the bill perfectly. Both sides of the can are of good size and the lids are stamped to distinquish which is recycle and which is trash (no multi-colored labels - ugly). The finish is good and the lids close snugly. What else can I say about it - it's a garbage can - but a good one. Free shipping was the icing on the cake.

Shipping for this item was very slow, but the item itself is very nice. I thought it would be a bit on the small side but it's actually just right for my family of 3 soon to be 4. The convenience of having the trash and the recycling bins side-by-side is wonderful. It provides a great learning opportunity for my 17 mon. who is learning the difference between the recyclables and the trash. The bins themselves are a bit narrow but they're very deep, so they'll hold a lot more than one may think. Also, regular size kitchen trash bags fit the trash can but end up being a bit short for the bins since they're so deep. All in all, I think this was a great buy and worth the money. I looked at other trash cans similar to this one at Wal-Mart, Target and generally online, but this one by far was a good buy. Like anything else, I just hope it lasts.

This trash can combo is quite tall and slender but perfect for sorting our recycling from our regular trash. The value is unmatched. It's a little on the flimsy side, but I would buy it again in a heartbeat!

I like the look and functionality of the trash can, uses odd size bags and needed to put a 1x4 between the can and the wall to prevent it from sliding back too far.
