This review is from: Urban Land Reform in China (Hardcover)
The author provides an interesting historical review of the history of land system in China. This is very useful as this is one of the few records of this kind in English text. In addition, the author also gives a very interesting and comprehensive examination of the current land use system reform in China. This is very important as virtually all other economic reforms take place on and above physical land. The comparative study of Shanghai and Hong Kong is most intriguing as these two cities represent the fore-runners in the current Chinese economy under quite different socio-political ideology. I think the author has given a very in-depth analysis of the success of and problems facing China in terms of urban land use issues. The author is very correct in saying every country is a unique entity that it is not reasonable to judge the reform programme from a generalised set of criteria.
