Urban Legend: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Given that the intent of this soundtrack CD was to capitalize on the rock songs from the movie, it's a bit unfortunate that they left out some of the music from the film (most notably some of those cool heavy metal songs that 'Tash was listening to.). But what's included on here is fair. The first two songs, "Tortured" and "Condition" are the only ones that I can really enjoy out of the pop tracks. About 15 minutes of the original motion picture score by Christopher Young are also included on this album, in the form of the last two tracks, "Urban Legend" and "Sex Advice With An Axe". The 15 minutes of music included in these two tracks are actually a suite, a collection of cues from different parts of the film. Some of the best score cuts are included in this two-track suite, including some very loud, fast-paced chase/horror music, so those who can't get a hold of Young's promotional score album won't be left without this nice bit of music. Overall, not a bad choice, but it might have been smarter of Milan to release an all-score CD of Young's music rather than the actual pop/score album that we have here.

This is an OK album. It doesn't include all the songs from the movie, it also doesn't include the whole score, just 2 score tracks and 5 song tracks. I just give it a 3 because its like a single. Buy it if you LOOOOOVED the movie...

I love Christopher Young's score, but the album as a whole is not that great.

Urban Legend is an excellent, but somewhat odd soundtrack. As noted in previous reviews, it almost seems like the album is pulling in two directions. On the one hand it's a good Alt Rock album, on the other it contains a great musical score. If your looking for one over the other you might be disappointed. However, if you are interested in both it's Classical music and the rock side, I think you'll find this CD quite enjoyable. Christopher Young's score is hauntingly beatiful. I found it reminiscent of Marco Beltrami's score for the Scream films. As for the Alt Rock side of the album, Annete Ducharme's "Tortured", Ruth Ruth's "Condition" and Juliana Hatfield's "Trying not to think about it" are the stand outs. One downside to the album: it contains only seven tracks. Based on my experience it's a somewhat rare CD, it took me a while to find it, and the price always hovered around $15.00 dollars, which is somewhat pricey. However in my opinion it's worth it, mainly for the the great Christopher Young score, but also for some nice Alt rock tunes.

The cd starts out very promisingly with Annette Ducharme's "Tortured," a catchy little tune which I found myself playing quite often without tiring of. But then it dips a little. The next three songs are easily forgettable and sound exactly the same as every other song playing on the radio right now(It is at this point that I skip ahead a few tracks). I'm not about to run out and see the movie again just to determine if all of these songs were used in the movie, but I'd have to guess that it is the case, seeing as there's really nothing special about them that relates them to the movie theme-wise. But then the cd redeems itself with the inclusion of the classic "Love Rollercoaster," which is quite possibly one of the most infectious songs ever created. After that comes Christopher Young's disturbing score, which strikes all the right cords in two montage sequences from the film. This score(my initial reason for buying the cd) is nothing short of excellent, and is represented very well here in the 15 minutes it is allotted. It is both hauntingly beautiful and tremendously scary and the perfect way to close the album. The liner notes puzzle me, however. They detail Christopher Young's composition of the score for the film. Now, while I found it fascinating, I doubt others may and it is curious that it was included on what otherwise would appear to be a normal soundtrack release. It appears that the producers realised they didn't have enough music on the cd to justify 15 bucks so they stuck the score in here instead of in a different album, but if this is so then why do the liner notes speak of the score? All in all it appears a bizarre cross-breeding between the two types of albums, with not really enough of either type of music to sustain listeners looking for specifically a soundtrack or movie score. I, however, overall enjoyed the cd due to Annette Ducharme's song and "Love Rollercoaster" and the excellent Christopher Young score and urge anyone who enjoyed the film to pick this cd up. It creates the atmosphere of the film for you right in your own home.

The Urban Legend soundtrack is a good alternative rock soundtrack. With the exception of Juliana Hatfield, the artists are relatively obscure. A treat is the original version of "Love Rollercoaster", as heard in the movie, complete with the scream in the background. Another plus is the creepy, effective score from the film. The only thing missing is "Turn Around" (from the movie's opening scene), which would have been a really neat idea.

This serviceable score is available (but rare) in its unadulterated form (even more of Young's music without the rock and roll) but consider passing over both versions of the album. This is only average Chris Young work; the composer has said himself that he's a bit tired of being referred to as the Bela Lugosi of horror film music, and this weary yet-another-horror-film approach shows. Young's best work is Copycat, Nightmare on Elm Street II, Hellraiser II, Norma jean and Marilyn, Rounders, and the hard to find Hush. This CD sounds like the former three, but is lacking in spirit and energy. Man Who Knew Too Little and Murder in the First are popular favorites also, but die-hard Young fans will find this lackluster effort doesn't even compare to the composer's self-acknowledged lesser efforts such as Dark Half or Fly II. The score album is best left for collectors only. If you buy this, do it for the rock tracks.

Had Urban Legends the soundtrack already with all the music from the bands and such. Was looking for the full score saw this green cool cover on this listing and thought this was it. But when I got it it was the same Cd I already had with the Urband Legends cover on it. Guess I should have read the listing better (my bad) but you could put the real cover on this so others don't get confused like myself Shame Shame on Amazon!
