Book Description

April 21, 2009
Join the Papertoy Revolution!

This is a collection of 26 of the coolest designer paper toys in existence, ready to be cut out and built. Each papertoy has step-by-step instructions, complete with easy-to-use diagrams, so even a novice will be able to make amazing papertoys with the help of a pair of scissors and a few dabs of glue.

Interviews with contributors such as Shin Tanaka, Ben the Illustrator, NiceBunny, Cubotoy and Kenn Munk are included. You'll find out more about where their ideas came from—and they might even inspire you to create your own papertoy! In addition, there is a foreword by Andy Heng from www.toysrevil.net.

The DVD includes lots of bonus features, such as all 26 toy templates in PDF format (so you can build cities full of papertoys); basic shapes (so you can learn the building blocks of papertoys); blank templates (so you can create your own "skin"); longer, unabridged interviews with all the designers in the book; and 33 bonus templates.

So grab your scissors, your glue and your imagination, and get ready to enter an inspiring new world of papertoys!

About the Author

Matt Hawkins is an incessant doodler. He lives in Kansas City with Alicia, Henry and Lily. By day, he works at a C3, a children's marketing agency as an illustrator/papertoy designer. By night he stays up way too late in his attic studio making designer papertoys for his own amusement and freelance papertoys for clients. He shares his papertoys with the world at www.custompapertoys.com. He's always cutting or folding or gluing something.

I have only recently gotten into the whole "papercraft" world, but this book has fully launched me over the edge. Interesting interviews and great papercraft projects all the way around. The template disk is also fantastic. These are truly some creative individuals!

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome to the world of paper craft., April 9, 2009
This review is from: Urban Paper: 26 Designer Toys to Cut Out and Build (Paperback)
I have been in the custom paper toy community for almost a year now and this is an outstanding collection of the greatest urban paper crafters the world has to offer.

Matt Hawkins did an excellent job compiling the works of all the great artists and the included interviews gives you some hindsight of what goes into these creations and the lives of the artists. This book goes out and gives you the introduction to paper crafting and tutorials as to building the provided toys and suggestions on creating your own. I love that the book comes with the bonus dvd so I do not have to cut up this book.

Hopefully in the future there will be a sequel and my skills will will be advanded enough to be asked to submit an entry.
