I really enjoyed this book as it was easy to read and had excellent pictures from the war zone itself. If you are looking to understand the urban war in Iraq, and it is largely an urban war, this book covers the subject well. I appreciated the attention paid to the specifics of close quarters battle and the limitations of firepower and massive force when confronting a resistance movement that hides among the population. Anyone deploying to Iraq should read this book as well as the average person looking to educate themselves about the current conflict.

This book delivered on the title. I was interested in doing research on modern wars and specifically how many current conflicts have an urban element to them (Iraq, Chechnya, IRA, FARC, etc.). This book broke down the subject of urban warfare into very useful sections and how modern militaries are not prepared for urban warfare and even the mightiest nations are neutralized in the conduct of modern urban guerrilla warfare. Excellent chapters on both close quarters combat and the insurgency's urban guerrilla methodology. I liked the picture based format and found the book an easy read. I recommend this work for anyone interested in the war in Iraq and modern urban warfare. This would make an excellent hand book for anyone having to fight in that conflict.

I just returned from Iraq and this book should be read prior to going over there. J Stevens incorporates all of the elements of current modern warfare into an easy to read book. The discussion of how insurgents operate is the highlight of the book. Urban Warfare in Iraq should be read by anyone who is interested in what is "really" going on in Iraq
