Very good headphones,

This review is from: Urbanears On-ear Headphones (Electronics)
I've wanted a pair of headphones like this for sometime now because these seem to las much longer than the little wire ones that go in or around your ear. I wanted a pair that wasn't too bulky, big, and overpriced which naturally ruled out the highly acclaimed Beats by Dre headphones. I wanted a pair that i could take around with me, that would fold, and look nice on me while i wear them. Well i found them! Urbanears won me over at a store i saw them at. If i had seen them here on Amazon first, i probably would have not bought them with previous comments, but i truly think if you are in any type of situation like I was in, then these are the headphones for you.
What I like: Fits nicely on your head Not too big not too small ear covers GREAT SOUND! Folds nicely Comes in many colors to choose from. Come with extra jacks for devices with diff mm inputs What I dislike: Does tend to get a little uncomfortable if worn for a long time, but what headphones don't. Nothing that would make me want my money back. If you have studded earrings, they are tight enough to push the back pin into your skin. Nothing serious, but really uncomfortable. With proper placement it goes away. It doesn't come with a built in volume adjuster, which isn't too much to ask for when the price is what it is It wouldn't have killed them to make their brand name more visible on the product but this may be a good thing for those that do not like to advertise brand names. What i love: The phone headset feature! One button to start a call with voice calling (at least for those blackberry users), same button mutes, and ends call. Crisp clean sounds of other person's voice coming in, and they can hear you better with the small mic feature. I love the fabric cord! finally an upgrade from all the cheap little wires that get tangled and short out in a month. The extra 3mm headphone jack so that a friend or partner can share in your music. Overall: A very good headphone set with minor technicalities but major features that i'm sure consumers will enjoy. As an avid Amazon prime customer, i just wanted to give back a review to those that need it in making their decision.

Having spent a serious portion of my early life doing professional audio, I'm more than a little critical.
These are GREAT cans. Good audio response, small size, well thought out cabling. I particularly like the choice of flexweave wire, and fabric covering. Super flexible, and known to be quite durable. (If your cat doesn't chew through it.) However, just as hats don't come in one size fits all...these and any other on-the-ear headphones will be uncomfortable for some. For the record, my hat size is 7.5 (US) and my ears stick out almost as badly as our current president's. And these are STILL comfortable, although I haven't worn them for more than an hour at a time, so far. For 60 bucks, you can't go wrong, particularly if you have an iPhone and want to be able to take calls. I was forced to get my wife a pair, just to keep her from bogarting mine. She settled on hot pink, not the purple. Mine are steel grey. The designer colors are a nice touch. Reports of sound quality issues are simply misinformed. Or the product of hearing impairment. I presently own 5 headsets. One for simple communications, two for studio narration work, and these. These are simply the best I've owned or used in as long as I can remember. For the price, you can't go wrong. Unless your hat size is a lot larger than mine, then they'll be tight, and I advise something for over the ear, instead of on it.

Reviews Helped in My Decision,
By
This review is from: Urbanears On-ear Headphones (Electronics)
I read several reviews before buying a pair here on amazon. I picked them up at a discount on Labor Day weekend from Off Saks for like $38. I had reservations about the size, as I have rather large ears, and am a male. But I don't wear earrings so I don't have much of the discomfort that several of the female reviewers do. But I do wear glasses occasionally and that can cause some pinching on the back of my head. Prolonged use to turn my ears red and my jaw actually starts to hurt for whatever weird reason.
As for the SOUND, I read about the muddiness of it, and yes, when listening to some rock or metal I did notice it. But the headphones really excel when it comes to bass, and I listen to A LOT of DUBSTEP. So for the price I got them at, yes, this was a great buy. Why blow $179 on "trendy" Beats when you can get the simplisticly sick design and bright colors of Urbanears. It looks great, and sounds great. And the rope cord is pretty chill too. This is a definite buy.

Overall, these are fantastic headphones - they're comfortable, sound great, and look better. I use them for everything - hanging out and relaxing, during work, and everything in between.
Pros: - The sound quality is awesome; they work for just about any type of music from classical, to celtic, to grunge rock, to trance. However, some fans of rap/hip hop may find the bass slightly deficient; see cons below. - They really are gorgeous. Everything - the cloth cord (nice and sturdy), inconspicuous mic, subtle speakers (not to big, not too small), and cloth-covered headband - it all combines to make these cans just beautiful. - Solid construction; everything feels non-plastic-y, and the cloth cord provides a sense of stability you can't get with plastic cords, like on the highly-lauded (and highly-overpriced) Beats Studio by Dr. Dre - Hi-Def Noise-Canceling Over-Ear Headphones. - The 'Zound' socket on these headphones is wonderful. Gone are the days when you're awkwardly watching a friend listen to the first 30 seconds of the song before they take your 'phones off, feeling uncomfortable about you not being able to hear. The ability to just plug another pair of headphones into yours and share your music is superlatively cool. Just plug your friends headphones in, and you both get the stereo sound. Sweet. - Portable; these fold up to about the size of your fist, and will fit quite nicely in your bag or man-purse. Cons: - The bass is not quite as good as it could be. Overall, the sound is well-balanced and pleasing, but like any pair of headphones that doesn't feel like putting a hat on, physics prevent the bass from being optimal for hip hop and rap. If you're looking for that kind of sound, try WeSC Oboe Headphone (Black) (though be warned that the sound on the rest of the genres sound like they're coming through a thick piece of foam). - There are some comfort issues, but they can be nullified by the fact that any pair of headphones, from iPod earbuds to Beats Studio, are all going to become uncomfortable after a given period of time. For me, the period is about 2-3 hours, which is more than needed for the periods I listen to them. That period may change based on the size of your head. All in all, these headphones are quite comfortable, if a bit snug-fitting. On the whole, these headphones are just about perfect. If you want to upgrade from whatever iffy earbuds came with your MP3 player, or are looking for a portable alternative to your $500 DJ-ing headphones, or just want a pair of really sleek, awesome-sounding general-use headphones, you've found 'em. Beautiful and functional, these should meet your exacting standards.

Great headphones except they are a little small and give me a headache after long use. Also, using the iPhone mic is hard with the headphones on because your own voice seems so much louder than the caller's voice.

This review is from: Urbanears On-ear Headphones (Electronics)
I wanted to like them, I really did. However, I am actually glad that my cat chewed through the cord so I can buy a different pair of headphones. They look cool and I didn't notice any sound quality problems, but don't take it from me. I'm hard of hearing and prefer to have higher frequencies screwed with because otherwise I can't hear them.
My problem is that for being "over the ear" headphones, they are extremely small and as a result, they are uncomfortable and become painful if they press on your ear for longer than a half-hour. If you like to wear headphones for longer stretches, you're going to fuss with them trying to figure out a way to wear them on your head so that they don't pinch your ears. Surprise: there is no such way! You're screwed! The three stars for their looks and design only, and are not based upon the actual (very poor) execution. It is a nice idea to be able to plug-in another headphone set so someone else can listen to your music too, and I like the little button on the cord that can be pressed to play/pause music without having to go to the source.

Okay, so I've had these headphones for about 4 months now.
Instead of going and babbling on about them, I'll just put a little list of it's features and what I think about them. Sound (3 stars): Not bad. The headphones don't actually wrap around your ears, so sometimes you can get some interference, but for the most part they do a nice job delivering sound to your ears. On top of that, the sound they deliver is really something to be appreciated. Size and comfortableness (ZERO stars): If you have an abnormally small head, you might like these headphones. However, I cannot suggest these headphones for someone who has a quote "average" head. They will be overly small and it honestly feels like putting a vice-grip around your ears after 30 minutes. So unless you're into intense pressure being brought to your head, I would suggest not buying these. You literally will have to take small breaks while you are listening to music for more than 30 minutes. Durability (-5 stars): There's really no excuse as the owner for dropping a pair of headphones. However, these things will break extremely easily. In one weekend, I went from having these things as they were brand new, but after dropping them only 2 time ON CARPETED FLOOR, they broke. They didn't just chip, they literally broke in half to the point that I can't even wear them anymore. If I had dropped them while outside on concrete, I would be more understanding as to the durability of these, but since I dropped it in my own home on a soft carpeted floor, I just have to say I can't recommend it at all. Overall (-1 stars): These things looked nice. And like many people said, I also WANTED to like these. They look really stylish and offer not bad sound. But at a price of $60, I just have to say, DON'T BUY THESE. They really only give mediocre sound for their price range and they are very uncomfortable. So I would suggest not buying them. You can easily find headphones in the $20-30 range that will be more comfortable, durable, and that will offer you better sound.

Plattan Headphones,

This review is from: Urbanears: Plattan Headphones - Wine (Electronics)
Ordered Wine color - the headphones look great and have good sound quality. I ordered this pair to use at work, and I have since ordered another pair (different color) for use at home. They are a little tight on my ears which took some getting used to at first, but as a result they do a great job reducing external noises. The primary reason I purchased them was due to discomfort I experienced using ear buds which needed to be set at a higher volume in order to hear well. With these headphones, I am able to hear music much clearer at a much lower volume and I don't feel like I am blasting my ear drums. I wish the cord was longer...I think it's only about 3ft. It's perfect for when using a laptop or portable music player, but really too short to move about comfortably in my work chair (I have it connected to a CPU next to my monitor). Since I like the design, I will go the route of purchasing an extension cord. The cord connects to the left earpiece, btw.

Good Headphones For Price But Not Great,
By AllTheNickles (WA, US) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Urbanears Plattan Folding Classic Full Size Headphones with "Zound Plug" - Color: Blue (Electronics)
These are good headphones but not great. On the positives, the sound quality on the highs is very good. The music is clear and the noise cancelling works well. I bought these in an airport during an extended flight and they were able to drown out 90% or so of the sound in the aircraft. I also like the microphone. Since many people (especially those spending $60+ on headphones) use their phones for music these days I think having a mic is essential. On the downside, as some other reviewers have said, the earpieces are small (note: I am a big guy with proportionately average ears), so during periods of more than 30 minutes of listening, your ears start to hurt from the pressure. This is a pretty big oversight in that I would guess 50%+ of the time people use big headphones, its for more than 1/2 hour. If Iwas more finicky this would cause me to knock them down to a 3 star. The other downside is the bass. Even with my sound enhancer on high bass I am not getting a whole lot of low end activity. This isn't the worst thing in the world for people who enjoy certain kinds of music, but my tastes are very eclectic and a good portion of my music doesn't sound the same without quality bass. I can't say if others at this price point are better, but if not and I had it to do over again I would spend another $20-$40 a get better bass and more comfort. I would not however, think its worth the extra $100 to go with the Dre Beats equivalent. Hope this is helpful.

These are really cute headphones, and they initially felt like great quality. Yes, they are really tight on your head, but according to their website, you can bend them out to fit a little looser. If you want to do them for any kind of activity (snowboarding, running, hula hooping, etc), tighter is better. But after about 30 minutes they will give you a headache, so stretching them out is necessary for me. One other issue I had with mine is that the wire shorted out after only about 2 weeks in, so I'm returning them in the hopes that it was just a fluke accident with mine. The sound is pretty good for the music I listen to (mainly electronic dance music). Not nearly as nice as my fancy headphones I use at work, but they do a great job of canceling out external noises and nobody else can hear what you're listening to. Great for bus rides. |
