(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Urban's Way: Urban Meyer, the Florida Gators, and His Plan to Win (Hardcover)
As in life, success is about helping others. Meyer develops his players and develops men as leaders after they finish playing on Sunday.

"....he owes a player every chance to play, to graduate and to achieve a normal, happy life by sorting out what ever demons haunt him."

"His creativity drives his intuition and provides a big-picture solution. It also motivates him to mentor and nurture players beyond what is necessary." ""....he only cares about his players and his staff."

"One of the biggest misconceptions is they think they understand competition." "He grew up with Dean Hood, who said Urban 100% believes it's more important to use football as a platform to teach kids how to become a man." "Each player is nurtured physically, nutritionally, academically, socially and sometimes, if they want it, even spiritually. Building trust is the goal." "A cornerstone of Meyer's coaching philosophy is owning up. ...We didn't tell you that. So it is my fault." As Wooden said, You haven't taught, until they have learned."

"Meyer...a good coach is what makes a good father." "winning is the ultimate goal as a platform to help young people." "God is sovereign...he's going to take care of you." "...come to grips with the short time we are here on earth." "Are we changing peoples lives? Are you really involved?" "Changing a couple of kid's lives is a high, as opposed to kicking the winning field goal---it's not even comparable." "The core values are physical conditioning, teamwork, living right and education." "You can quit. But I'm not going to quit on you." "Every player just wants to be helped." "There are really only about 8 teams in our nation that do things the right way." "The huddle breaks every barrier---religious, racial, rich or poor." "Spurrier changed the game....Urban changed the game with his relationship with his players." "Recruiting---is getting the right people on the bus." "The job of a coach is to utilize your potential." "If you deserve to play, you'll be on the field." "When he talks, he knows what he is talking about." "A selfish approach to the game...is not conducive to being a good team." "The Gator Walk was started by Meyer to afford the fans more face time with the team to build a community. And for the players could have the stage."

Urban Meyer and his staff are without guile. This is the central concept for all coaches.
