Instant nostalgia, now free

Take delicious old-school pics your friends will drool over with Retro Camera. Five cameras, five sets of vintage vignetting, film scratch and cross-processing effects for that off-the-hip analog look. Inspired by the old Lomo, Holga, Polaroid, Diana, and toy cameras whose iconic styles we treasure.

Retro Camera comes with five different cameras:

  • The Bärbel - An East German classic, naturally faded with a scratched film and medium vignetting. The perfect all-round choice.
  • The Little Orange Box - The Soviet Staple with aggressive cross processing and scratched square film. Its plastic lens leaks in light and exhibits strong vignetting. Black and white option for even more emotion.
  • Xolaroid 2000 - Its inspiration is obvious! Every candid snapshot this camera produces is a keeper, with blue/green cross-processing effects and timeless contrast. For that classic touch, try the black and white option.
  • The Pinhole Camera - A DIY gem and more unpredictable than Schrödinger's cat. With full bleed developing and vignetting through the roof, be sure to give this cardboard chimera a go.
  • The FudgeCan - The perfect rig for outdoors, "developed" on square film that wasn't quite stored... or developed right. But therein lies the charm that'll make your pics with this beauty memorable and instantly nostalgic.

2.0 out of 5 stars the crop factor is too much April 11, 2011
This is a fun little app, but it's usefulness is very limited. The choices of retro cameras are cool, and I like the square format. The problem is that the app only uses a tiny square from my phone's camera image. This makes the wide/normal lens on the camera behave like a long telephoto lens, but with reduced quality. For the kind of cameras this emulates, a wide/normal lens would have been just right. This is kind of like shooting a brownie camera with a mediocre telescope stuck in front of the lens.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun and rather addictive! April 2, 2011
This is such an enjoyable app for an android phone. It provides fun retro variety and spices up photos to post on Facebook or other social networking sites. I use it so much my friends indulge me and just say "Oh, here she goes with her camera app again." Yet, you won't hear them grumble about the fun photos they then have to use for their profile pix!

I'd give it 5 stars if you could use the flash with it and be able to zoom in and out. Otherwise, wonderful app and I don't leave home without it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Access? April 15, 2012

Why does it need access to my contacts? Amazon needs to prohibit apps that ask for unneccesary access and information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best retro filter app on Android April 21, 2012
Takes truly awesome pics. I do wish the app would support even higher resolutions. For the tinfoil hat brigade freaking out about the permissions requested, try learning what Android permissions are used for before rating a top-quality app one star: access to the contact list is for sharing the pics you take directly from the app rather than sending from the gallery, location awareness is for OPTIONALLY geotagging pictures with your location. There is no great conspiracy here, just a great app.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is one of two essential photography apps March 27, 2011
I used Retro Camera exclusively for a couple months, until I discovered Vignette. I use Vignette a lot now, but I still like to have Retro Cam to come back to if need be. It's a must-have for the awesome Polaroid setting, and it can be moved to the SD card.

1.0 out of 5 stars permissions... ugh. April 17, 2012
why does this app need access to my contact list? i do *not* trust apps that have access to info such as my contacts, gps location, network info, etc.
honestly, from a camera app i expect nothing more than a camera.

As far as camera applications go this is a run of the mill kind. This is an average application for photo modifications.
