Product Description

Urfa Pepper, which is also known as Isot Pepper is a chili grown in the Urfa region of Turkey. Sun dried during the day and wrapped and sweated at night, this chili has a wonderful smoky, raisin-like flavor reminiscent of dried fruits and tobacco. Urfa Pepper is hotter than Marash or Aleppo Pepper and is purplish-black as opposed to red in color. Urfa pepper flakes are traditionally used in Turkey with meat. This chili, however, can be used in almost any dish where medium heat is desired including sweet dishes. Once your try Urfa Pepper you will reach for it often. This is a chili which should be in every cooks' spice cabinet.

Urfa pepper is a great alternative to black pepper in any savory dish. It adds a richness and is a very "dense" flavor profile, without changing the taste of the dish you are adding it to. I would give 5-stars if pricing (with shipping) was aligned with local herb/spice prices.

Just thought I'd see what happened if I put it on the dinner table next to the regular salt and pepper - was a HUGE hit right from the start.

I can't really say anything about how it'd be when used in cooking because we just sprinkle it on top of whatever....

This isn't a hot pepper, it won't make your nose run and steam come out of your ears. It's got some nuance, and the description is pretty much on the money: medium heat, smokey, raisin-y.

I'm here to get some more, we've run through the first jar. :-)
