The Nits are a successful Art/Pop group from Amsterdam. Since their recorded debut in 1978, they have created some of the finest and most innovative music in Europe. This is one of those rare live albums where most of the songs actually improve on the studio versions. However, if you are new to this band you might miss the point completely if you start here. First you must get to know the original versions - well, actually you mustn't of course, but I strongly recommend it. Once you've learned to like (or - as I - love) the original versions (mainly drawn from their mid- and late-80's albums) you'll find that a song like "Home Before Dark" (one of the more anonymous tracks from "Henk", 1986) performed on accordion instead of the very dated synths on the original takes the whole song to a new level. If you have no idea what The Nits sound like I would say they are what you get if you mix Beatles, Squeeze, Jacques Brel and Talking Heads in fairly equal parts. They don't sound like either, of course, but they're all in there somewhere.

Melodic, creative, unique and named after a bug. The Beatles? No, it's The Nits, one of those bands you've never heard of. You will be humming these songs all day long. Get it.
