5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Pre-reading, November 5, 2011

This review is from: Urology: A Handbook for Medical Students (Paperback)
I picked this book up before doing a four week elective in a urologic surgery department and it gave me an excellent overview of what urology does. It's very clearly written and well illustrated and gave me a bit of a leg up when I started. I was able to converse a little more intelligently with my preceptors and with the urology residents. All of the common procedures are covered in outline so when I was told I was going to be assisting in a TURP I had at least a basic idea of what was going to happen. Having this book made my experience in the urology department that much richer, and I was able to do more and spend less time playing catch up like some of the other students did. I highly recommend this for anyone who is considering spending any time in a urology department, anywhere. It's by no means an exhaustive treatment of urology, for which I would recommend either Smith's General Urology or, for the highest level of coverage, Campbell's Urology, but reading it will make you look like you actually know something when you show up on the first day.

I have a paper version so I cannot speak for the Kindle version. It looks, however, as if it would translate well into an electronic format.
