5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal
This is a pure party on a disc. If this stuff doesn't get a crowd moving nothing will. It's fun as hell, varied, and retro without being dated about it and upbeat without being (too) cheesy. It's a little more uptempo and forward than a loungecore compilation might expect, it's primarily funky breakbeat with a 60s flavor. Lovers of Fantastic Plastic Machine, or...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not my favorite Ursula 1000 CD
I really enjoy Here Comes Tomorrow, and also like Kinda Kinky. Ursadelica has several tracks that seem to repeat the same beat and noise over and over.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantabulous blast of kitschfunk!, November 26, 2005
This review is from: Ursadelica (Audio CD)
Ursula 1000 built this mix album with a total DJ/techno ethos, but the music, beats, singing, EVERYTHING is soaked in a kind of Austin Powers-lounge-martini-swinger vibe. Latin percussion, organs, techno flourishes, horns, analog synths, and kickin' beats are pureed into a simmering greasy funk that is just irresistable. No one cool should listen to this kind of music, but if you have any cool in you at all you will be on your feet shaking your thang all over the place!

5.0 out of 5 stars The New Hotness!, November 6, 2004
This review is from: Ursadelica (Audio CD)
Ursula was the guy on the fringe of my big audio taste buds since I became hip to the ESL sound....his boogaloo-ness was cool, but not as cool as the phat tracks the 1212 crew was dropping, so... I never really got in to it. Then I stumbled upon his mix tape (which was a "study" for this album I think)... let me tell you, it was like being addicted to heroin! I couldn't make it through the day without listening to it! One of the best dance albums this year without question (definitely rates up there with NOW and TC DJ Kicks (my two all-time favorites).

5.0 out of 5 stars Not for rocket surgeons but they should get it anyway, November 15, 2005
This review is from: Ursadelica (Audio CD)
Fun fun fun. Ursula 1000 doesn't try to be sophisticated or deep. He doesn't try to tell stories or break a lot of new ground. I don't think he intended to. That being said this album does exactly what it sets out to do very very well. What seems at first to just be ear candy for the usually more sophisticated listener is actually quite a bit more than that, with ever losing its playfulness.

Largely latin and funk, and several artists worth looking into in their own right. The tracks just keep coming and coming, and while you might not like a particular track, I personally don't dislike any of them. And to make it even better, just like a liquid filled candy, the end is just as good as the beginning (often not the case these days).

Get this CD. Have a cocktail party. Let loose and get funky.

4.0 out of 5 stars Think pink..., June 24, 2005
This review is from: Ursadelica (Audio CD)
Because thats the color of the album cover and I couldnt think of a good title. Nonetheless, although I hesititate to admit it, this album made me dance. Not the wild dancing you see at the club, but more so the kind you do in front of the full body mirror when no one is watching. Bring in the hip and hype splashed over head-nodding beats and scrubbed down with other worldly basslines and now you're feet are scorching Barishnikoyv style. Think Oceans Twelve. Think swanky martini's. In fact dont even think just get this and watch your ass shake like a saltshaka.

The title explains everything his mix has to offer. From track 1 to track 20 you hear the funkiest music that is fit for driving and just chilling at home, with friends etc etc. I got this album ealier today and I have been listening to it nonstop ever since...it's addicting, very addicting. The groove offered by the amazing bass lines just makes you want to move. Listening to this album ultimately will make anyone happy. Heck, I listen to the Who, Pink Floyd, and Metallica also, so you really don't have to be a fan of the genre to appreciate this type of music.

I would also recommend anything offered by ESL artists, from Aubele to Thievery Corporation, Thievery Corporation being my favorite. Zero 7 - Simple Things is also an excellent album, in addition to the four volumes of 'Elemental Chill'.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Will Dance!, January 25, 2007
This review is from: Ursadelica (Audio CD)
This just knocked something off my Top Ten list. I don't know what yet, but this is an instant classic. How to describe this... hmm... sorta Funky Techno Lounge with some Latin thrown in. The best part is the track I've been searching months for is on here, and I didn't know it until I played the CD. It's from that Intel commercial with the hottie in the purple shirt dancing around. Intel's site says it's called Mr. Dabada, but actually it's called Born to Funk. Yay! I finally have the whole song!

A great, funky little album. After you're done with the smooth stylings of whichever Hotel Costes volume you have, if you're in the mood for something a little wild, something a little zany, this is your disc! A psychadelic cocktail lounge party crashed by funksters, go-go dancers, mods and rockers. A good time for all!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ursula 1000 hooks a fusion generator to mom and dad's samba, November 11, 2004
This review is from: Ursadelica (Audio CD)
I suppose that a word of rhetoric that could be used to describe Ursula 1000 would be "eclectic". If you settle for the mere eclectic experience, turn on the FM. However if you want your senses served a cool gimlet while wearing a hot hawaiaan, this CD is a must for your drive.

From end track to end track, from cover to cover awaits a coccophony of the most intelligent music that you have ever heard in your life. Personally, I don't think that I am really qualified to review this CD, because I haven't listened to it enough.

As with "All Systems Are Go-Go!" and "Kinda Kinky", so much is stuffed into a 70 minute, one track cd, that it literally takes months to discover little nuances digitally littered over the silver surface of the disc. In essence, Ursula 1000 is all about sound, quality, and service to the music, a standard which is sorely lacking to todays popular music. The great thing about all of Ursula 1000's CDs is that you can dance to them, then you can go home and listen to them. you can bob your head in the car, or you can go nuts at the club while sipping the obligatory umbrella drink.
