Product Description

Naerius. A rocky planet. Always at the center of large power politics. Its proximity to the center of the 3 empires, Darjiki, Raslavon, and Barsifi, lent itself to superpower machinations. A stepping stone for their fleets and armies.

Naerians. An ancient people caught in the vortex between these 3 battling empires. Fiercely independent, they seemed to assimilate into the cultures into which their diaspora was spread, yet always retaining a connection to their ancient home world, its language, religion and stories. Their stories were replete with great princes who fought epic losing battles, Pyrrhic victories for their rulers or antagonists.

Pascal Adam Scintilla. A Naerian refugee on the dusty planet of Barabrum. Pascal was a nickname given to him in an orphanage-monastery by the monks who enjoyed the company of this youth of uncommon cleverness and gift of gab. His fate was intertwined with the monks who raised and trained him and he accepted this nickname as a badge of honor.

Return. Pascal’s desire to return to his home world of Naerius is the driving force which guides his choices. That unquenchable need to get home leads him to actions that get him to the halls of power in the Raslavon empire.

Raslavon. The largest most powerful galactic empire. A civil war here would cause Pascal to find his love and his fate.

Prophecy. Prophecy seemed to be at play. Prophecy would pit 2 religions, 3 empires and 3 generations of the Urtaru family In a set of events that might lead to Galactic Peace. Was Pascal the first of three as described in the prophecy of Dol?

Three sons of different mothers come
The rule of all will succeed in the last
The first shall see the last just once
The last will keep the secret of the father
Their last shall bring home the first two
The stone will be returned to its place
A power immeasurable will be unleashed

This review is from: Urtaru (The Urtaru Chronicles) (Kindle Edition)
Great book! I have not been as excited about reading for a long time. It would be a lot of fun for science fiction and history lovers at the same time. I love history so on one side it was very exciting for me to recognize many historical events involving powerful empires and leaders, their machinations to expand influence and control, devastating wars, genocides (The Armenian), religions and prophecies. On the other side I was engulfed in the story of the main character Pascal, a little man on the big stage of history, whose uncommon intellegence and wisdom, quiet bravery and determination, and deep passion of his dreams become a critical factor in the fate of countries, emperors and princes. This intellegent man with a tragic past, who advices powerful rulers, also has a tender heart. And his love story is a gentle tune in the brutal sounds of star wars and battles. Pascal became one of my favorite literature characters. The background of planets, systems and galaxies is also very exciting for a science fiction fans.
