Representing the Real....,
By
This review is from: Us (Audio CD)
I will say it again and again.... Brother Ali is in his own realm of MC'ing. His first album "Shadows of the Sun" shows his abilities as an MC with his smooth poetic flows. The "Undisputed Truth", Ali's sophmore album boasted his lyrical abilities once again but it also reflected his maturity as an MC.
"US" is an album that blew me away. He is a "Warrior for Peace" or a "Soldier for Unity" and he describes that in his songs on this album whether it be about slavery, rape, homosexuality or growing up as a kid. He is able to paint the picture so well that it sends me shivers. I don't care what the VMA's said, this by far is the best album to come out this year and I challenge you to listen to any other album this year and try to compare it to Ali. Hip-Hop heads want the "real", they want the "truth" and this provides it. This is something that Hip-Hop is missing too much of these days. Please, please, please pick up this album. It seems many people have been having problems with the digital album online so go out to the store and pick it up.. This is the Midwest (MPLS) representing right here.

ALI and ANT do it again.,

I had been looking forward to the release of this album for a while i am happy its finally here. The 'Rope a Dope' mix tape and the 'Truth is here EP' were excellent and 'us' is a masterpiece. Ali really bears his soul on this one and lets the listener know who he is, where he's coming from and how his journey through life has shaped his outlook. Ali's words and delivery are definately inspired and he covers a wide range of topics, as only he can. Whether the songs are the hard hitting and somewhat boastful tales of being a bad Mutha!@#$ growing up in MN or tear jerking tales of the middle passage and the terrible legacy it has left us with, he doesn't miss a step. ANT's beats, as usual are great. i almost feel like given the quality of ANT'S huge volume of work with both ALI and SLUG that this goes without saying. So yeah, pick up the album and make sure you catch the tour when it comes to your town.

Its Ali and Ant,

I couldn't believe this album only had 11 reviews on amazon 9 months after it's release so I figured I may as well put my two cents in. It's Brother Ali. One of the most heart on the sleeve spitters around. Live show is a beast. Records are dope. He managed to set an incredibly hard bar to pass for himself after album 2 (shadow on the sun) and album (ep) 3, Champion EP. Those are two of the dopest albums in modern day hip hop. But after what I personally considered a let down with The Undisputed Truth (doesn't past the most important test of repeated listenings followed by being sheleved for a bit then repeatedly listened to again, most important test kiddos) he came through on this album and showed his versatility with topics and styles and laid it down. And of course ant came through and did his thing which he is experimenting with a little bit but thats cool. Artists should do that. I'm rambling but seriously, the story telling of the travelers and breakin dawn, and us, amazing. The holy **** of tight rope.. man, a hip hop artist being that real? amazing. and the braggadocio of Best @ it? he makes freeway and everyones popular current punchline king joell ortiz sound down right elementary. RIPS IT! seriously, it's ali, buy the album, he deserves your money and go see his live show cause it is a part

Brother Ali is about as good as it gets. Crazy talent. Never has a hip-hop artist put so much emotion and truth into his work. Some "hard" to listen to songs, cause the world is a hard place to live. This cd is about so much more than bangin, selling drugs, and carryin a piece. Can't stop listening to this thing. Oh, and do yourself a favor and buy The Undisputed Truth and Shadows on the Sun too, sooner the better. You WON'T regret it.

Brother Ali is one of the illest emcees alive right now. This third LP (if you missed out on the first LP, Shadows on the Sun, its classic) brings every bit of amazing lyrics, energy, and dope beats that you can ask for on a hip hop album.
Beyond that, the way the Brother can tell stories of life and hardships without sacrificing rhyme schemes, word play, or masterful flow is very hard to find. Songs like "Games", "The Travelers", "Tight Rope", and "Baby Girl" amongst others are great examples of this. Then there are the tracks where he flat out rips the mic like "Best@it" and "Round Here". If you are already a fan of Brother Ali, you will no doubt love this album. If you havent heard any of his music, but love midwest cats like Elzhi, Lupe, and Royce, you will most likely enjoy this album. If you dont know who any of those people are (besides Lupe I guess cause hes kinda blown up a little bit), wake up and go get some real hip hop. If you don't like those cats or Brother Ali, then you probably wont like this album, simple enough.

If you know anything about Brother Ali then you will not be disappointed. He comes correct as usual, and Ant provides him with an amazing backdrop played by a live band. Don't be worried by the 4 star rating, this is a classic from the very first listen.

Wow.. I got this cd the day it came out and all I can say is WOW.. I've been listening to it non-stop since then.. And I'm simply blown away because of how truly great of an artist Ali is.. He leaves nothing out in his music and lets you know his life and the people he shares it with.. Story filled lyrics to soul filled lyrics.. Ali is genius.. And Ant does an absolutely great job backing his style with amazing beats, cuts, and ridiculously perfect tempo'd music.. I guarantee you that once you start listening you want to stop and just keep on begging for more.. Buy this album.. if only for Us..

Best Hip Hop Album of 2009!,
By
This review is from: Us (Audio CD)
I usually don't like writing reviews but the current rating on Amazon does not do this album justice. They have been many dope albums and mixtapes that were dropped this year and this is my fav yet! I mean goin over this year we had albums such as..
Raekwon's Only Built for Cuban Linx 2 Knaan's Troubadour Krs One and Buckshot's Survival Skills Jay-Z's Blueprint 3 Wale's Mixtape Back 2 the Feature Mos Def's Ecstatic Kid Cudi's Man on the Moon Method Man and Redman's Blackout 2 Tanya Morgan's Brooklynati .... I mean I am most definitely a hip hop junkie and I know my music. This is amongst the best hip hop albums this year and personally I think it's the best. Everyone's opinion differs but I stand by mine. This is REAL GOOD MUSIC!!!!

Who would have thought Minnesota would be a hot bed for some of the best Rap in the world. With Unknown Prophets, Slug, and Brother Ali it has to be up there. This is a standout release for Brother Ali and probably his best but they are all great.

If you listen to hip-hop and have become tired of the standard radio garbage then this is an album for you. I can't stand the wipe me down do the stanky leg or ricki bobby trash I get on the local radio stations so I turned to digging around for the smaller groups. I recommend this album to everyone even if you haven't come around yet. Brother Ali and the rest of the rhymesayers are doing great things here. Jump on and stay on the bandwagon.
