This is a great book, full of wonderful ideas and I highly recommend it! Just be careful when purchasing, there are two sizes: $8 for the 5"x6" version and about $15 for the 9"x12" version. As far as I can tell they are the same book, but if you want the bigger one and end up with the smaller one, it's a bit disappointing. Good luck!

An excellent, well explained art book, with beautiful and easy to follow illustrations. The book is a treasure chest of ideas suitable for the primary classroom. This book provides plenty of opportunities to explore the various strands of the visual arts field. A great resource for any teacher, parent or doting aunt.

I teach 4th and 5th grade art, and on a very tight budget none the less. This book has wonderful ideas that I can either add to or shorten depending on my class level. It has given me great ideas and I am looking forward to trying more.

I absolutely love this book. I'm an elementary teacher and have recently received art (not to be confused with CRAFT) training. This book is an excellent extension to the training I received as it teaches skills and gives tips on basic art techniques such as drawing lines, practice using different types of brush strokes, experimenting with water colors, and using an entire space (visual perception/placement). While some of the skills/projects presented are definitely for older students (4th grade+), most can be modified for students as young as kindergarten (such as making a bird using cut slices of an apple, which also teaches shapes and fractions!).
My one disappointment is the size of the book the I received- which is partly my fault for not looking at the dimensions posted. While I entered the ISBN number for the larger book, the ISBN numbers are apparently the same for the larger and smaller books and the page I ordered from was for the smaller hand sized book (I thought I was getting a deal). Regardless, the same skills are presented in both books, and I highly recommend this book to any budding elementary school teachers of art.

I have been trying to find a great art book for home projects with my kids, and I found it with this book. It has step-by-step instructions with beautiful color examples. This book is a gem. Not only am I teaching my son how to create beautiful art, I am learning alot myself about different techniques used for different effects. I recommend this book to any parent, daycare provider, or teacher who wants to teach art a fun way.

Now I took this out from the library and bought it. So I think its a great book, lots of fun ideas with art. Now here is my only beef: They could give more step by step and write more. They talk like you have 50 years of art teaching under your belt. Just put a stem on the tree and add water color leaves. Uhhh, how about more details and more step by step pictures??!! Still love it though.

Lots of good ideas for doing art with my grandson. I am a watercolor artist and found this really a fun book, but didn't realize this was a small version.

Although the Usborn Book of Art skills is tiny in size, it is packed with great ideas for teaching lessons in art to young children. Techniques may be adapted for older students and adults. I was impressed by how many techniques are covered. Most projects are suitable for one class period. This little book should be part of a teacher's resource library.

Book is alittle small. Make sure you look at size. Other than that great book!
