Loosely divided into three categories--treasures buried underground, treasures at sea, and ancient treasures--the book offers a series of short articles (generally two pages) on topics such as pirate loot buried on Cocos Island, off Costa Rica; the restoration of the Tudor ship, the Mary Rose; the discovery of the underground army of clay soldiers at Huang Di's tomb; and the recovery of the Mona Lisa after its theft in 1911. The many full-color illustrations include photographs of sites and artifacts, reproductions of period artworks and photos, maps, diagrams, and vivid paintings of varied treasures. Although children researching reports will probably need more information on specific subjects than they will find here, browsers will find this sturdy paperback an enticing introduction to the treasure hunts. Great book detailing some of the most notable treasure hunts in history. Well-written and concise. Perfect for reading on a trip to the tropics!

This is, as usual, a great resource from Usborne. This book is jam-packed full of true stories of different treasures that have been stashed, found, lost, stolen, or still waiting to be discovered. There are also tons of great color photos and drawings of the different treasure hunters, treasures found, treasure ships, maps, etc. The treasures range from sunken pirate ships to gold hidden in caves to treasures buried and more. There are lots of interesting stories about the people who have made it their quest to search for lost treasures and what they discovered. Overall, an exciting and adventurous book to read and/or a great supplement for studying about treasure ships, pirates, oceans, or treasure hunting.
