We've purchased a few books on this subject to prepare our two-year-old for our new baby, and this is the favorite.

The text is very simple and straightforward, keeping mostly clear of emotional descriptions and dialogue. I appreciate this because I don't want to give my son ideas regarding how he should or shouldn't feel about having a new baby in our family. I just wanted something to help prepare him for all of the changes we were going to be experiencing, and this book did exactly that. For example, the story talks about all of the changes in the house, like getting the baby's room ready and getting out all of the baby stuff to get it cleaned and ready, Papa and Granny coming over to visit for awhile to help with the kids, visiting Mommy and the new baby at the hospital, and Mommy and baby being very tired (and needing lots of extra help) when they come home.

The illustrations are darling, and even funny. I liked that it showed a picture of mommy nursing and daddy being tired from all the extra work he's had to do around the house - it made me chuckle a little.

I highly recommend this book to anyone with small children expecting another one. We love it!

This small book has a lot going for it. The storyline is straightforward, the illustrations are funny, and the book doesn't get bogged down in what kids might (or might not) feel toward their new sibling. It also shows mama nursing the baby, which can be difficult to find in children's books. Recommended, especially for families expecting a third child.

I recommend this book for anyone having a baby and have other young children. It is realistic, with great pictures, and is simple, easy to understand for a young child. It shows all the things that will happen and things that mommy will have to do with a new baby, even breast feeding, and all the things that a young child can help with. It's great for later conversation with the child. Enjoy!

We recently had a second baby, a baby girl and bought these - along with two other books - two months before the arrival to try and introduce the idea to our first child who was around 15 months old. She is a keen reader anyway so, using books to introduce new concepts is something that appeals to her but, I did not expect quite the result that we got. It was brilliant, we read the books, used them to initiate conversations about babies and Mummy's tummy and when Grandma walked in the door, our child simply said "Manma, hop-itle, bubba" we couldn't believe it. She used the book associations to translate what was going on and when the new baby arrived (that night to our surprise) she was not thrown, upset nor confused by what was going on. The other books we purchased were "New Baby" and "I'm a Big Sister" each have their own merits. This one, I particularly like as it shows the Mummy breastfeeding and I had struggled to find one that did. I would recommend this approach to anyone and in fact we have already leant the books to two other expectant families both with the same results.

this is a great little book about having a new baby. there are 2 kids in the family, a boy & girl (I think 5 & 3) & the new baby is a girl. we bought this book a month or so before we had our second baby & read it with the older one. it is great because it shows the mom nursing the baby & remains neutral/positive about the new baby coming along. I highly recommend this one!

After reading all the good reviews, I was not surprised at how wonderful this book is for our 2 year old daughter. We love the fact that no one discusses how the children feel. This has become a favorite book for our daughter to request. Usually, she will ask to see her baby pictures from the hospital after reading the book. We're always impressed with Usborne, and they didn't disappoint us with "The New Baby".

On the Usborne site this book is noted to be for "age 3 and up." Our son is not quite 3 and I found it to be just perfect for his level.

It's wonderfully written with just enough detail of the events for this age group. The illustrations are adorable which adds something special.

If you have a 2-4 yr old and are expecting, I would recommend this book as a perfect way to introduce the "big brother" or "big sister" world to your toddler.

I chose this book because it had pictures of breastfeeding. Its an extremely medically minded book and doesn't have anything really representing natural parenting which was the impression I had (and not many pictures of breastfeeding).
