This is a MUST read for anyone in law enforcement. For those of you who are investigators, trainers, command staff or supervisors this book needs to be in your library. Kevin Davis does an outstanding job of detailing the specifics concerning use of force as it pertains to instructing, policy, reporting, investigating and chain of command responsibilities. This book is easy to read and it covers case law better any training material I have been exposed to.

I chose the 5 star rating because there was not a 6 star rating! This study is written in a style that the professional officer will find very easy to read. But in addition to the LEO, this book should be on the must read list for prosecutors as well as mayors, town supervisors, and other elected representatives. The information is spot on , current and very clearly explained. It is the type of study that should be read over and over again.

A book every law-enforcement officer and agency should purchase as a reference manual. Anyone in a criminal justice program, police academy, or that is considering a career in law-enforcement should read this book before ever spending a day on the streets. Too many officers and supervisors alike are deficient in use of force knowledge required to act without hesitation in a use of force encounter or in a use of force investigation.

This is a nuts and bolts walk through, that should help both the new officer as well as old salt see past their nose. It should even be valuable to the civilian carrier to prepare for an encounter.

As a retired Officer, I can attest to what is written here. Most of my career I was not aware or told much of this. Main emphasis was on "Do not use your weapon". When it happened I felt left out to dry. Fortunately it turned out OK
