fine music but... what a mess with the tracks of the cd!,
This review is from: Used to Be Duke (Dig) (Audio CD)
I love Hodges' music very much, but in this cd the tracks from 6 to 11 are a real mess, worse than what the previous reviewer pointed out: track 6 includes both "Autumn in New York" (piano only) and "Sweet Lorraine"(like a medley); consequently the following tracks from 7 to 10 correspond to the titles shown as tracks 8 to 11 on the cover. Moreover, on track 11 you can listen to a very nice version of "All of Me", which of course is not mentioned on the cover!
That's why my rating, instead of 4 or 5 for the music, is 2 for the CD!

Great CD, wrong order of song names,

This is a great CD, but tracks 8, 9, and 10 are not in correct order. Track 8 is actually "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes", 9 is "If You Were Mine", and 10 is "Time On My Hands"

It's Johnny Hodges,

Simply said, it's Hodges, what's not to like, the smooth as silk alto of Hodges makes him an original, check him out. Anything Hodges is worth owning. Check out the Avid Four Classic Album set, you won't be sorry.

Great Hodges; Poor Track Listing,
This review is from: Used to Be Duke (Dig) (Audio CD)
Absolutely 5 stars for the music, this one was originally recorded and released in 1954 and, with other Ellingtonians in the lineup, included John Coltrane on tenor. It would have been appreciated if Verve, upon re-releasing this, would have gotten the tracks right on this. "Autumn In New York" and "Sweet Lorraine" are on one track which messes up the following track listings. "All of Me" is the last song on this CD and is not even listed. (sweet version, too!) Aside from that, musically this is another fine Hodges effort!
