5.0 out of 5 stars Informative, great for me, amazing for my kids
This book is really interesting. I picked it up to take a quick look at it while at the book store and really got into it.

I picked it up for me, and quickly realized how much my kids would wind up benefiting from me reading the book. The book contains a good number of mental tricks for remembering things, and brief inside looks into each topic that it...

3.0 out of 5 stars A little disappointing
Not as much emphasis on math and science as I would have liked. Obvious emphasis on literature, especially British authors. Does contain several nice geography lists, such as U.S. and world country capitals, and bodies of water, which I find useful or handy to have in one source.

I'm thrilled that I bought it, as its a great reference that Im sure I will refer to each year my kids get older!

It's a must have!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Resouce of Lost Knowledge!, October 18, 2009
Okay so this year is actually my 10-year High School reunion, not that I am going but it made me think. I mean I honestly don't remember half of what I learned and I was actually a decent student. Well the book "I Used to Know That: Stuff You Forgot From School" by Caroline Taggart is a book that is perfect to brush up on facts and subjects you may have forgotten or are remembering wrong.

In "I Used to Know That" you will find a variety of subjects, covering English, Literature, Math, Science, History, Geography, and General Studies. It is basically a quick book to reference to re-discover lost knowledge. I even love how this book looks like a school ledger, but it is hardcover so it will last. I cannot believe how useful this book is and how much I pick it up. Honestly, I find myself flipping through it all the time and always learning something new, even though this is only a 175-page book.

I re-learned about the planets, famous composers, wars, the circulatory system, geometry and so much more! I really think this book is adorable and perfect for anyone who is either currently a student or someone who wishes maybe they can remember more of what they learned in school! This book is classified as a Reference/Trivia book and is a Reader's Digest book.

5.0 out of 5 stars How did they know that?, November 25, 2009
I keep this little book on my coffee table and everytime someone comes over to my house they find another tibit of information which is both helpful and entertaining. The section on percentages helped me refresh my math skills when trying to figure out a sale price and book created a new guessing game for my guests. What is the capital of Bahrain or whose nickname is the Peace Garden state? I personally like the section on British and American poets--they provide a biography of the poet with a quotable passage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for review (me) and my kids (just beginning middle school), August 14, 2009
By
It's like a trip back through all the Jr. High and Sr. High school years... without all the awkwardness and pain. The sections are very well laid out, comprehensive, and easy to understand for adults. Keep in mind that for a short book, it covers many subjects so depth is not the core strength but if you are looking for a quick reference check or scan, this is perfect! Cliff notes for Grades 5 - 12 all almost all subjects.

Just what the doctor ordered for this old geezer that can't remember squat any longer. I should have studied harder and paid more attention in school. If I would have had these helful hints I would have retained more. THANK YOU for making learning fun and possible still. Seriously this is a GREAT book; I recommend it to anyone just starting their education AND for those that never want to stop learning. A worthwhile investment for a lifetime of education.

4.0 out of 5 stars fun facts, December 24, 2009
I Used to Know That is a fun and interesting book with many tidbits of information that can be used for a quick reference guide or to brush up a little on the major subjects of Math, Literature, English, Science, History, Geography, and General Studies.

Authors of classic literature, fractions, geometry, algebra, the skeletal system, periodic table, U.S. presidents, countries and their capitals, and planets are just a few of the topics covered in this jammed packed little book.

This is an entertaining book for those interested in trivia. It would also be good for quizzing school-aged children or to just remember facts that haven't been needed for a few years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even made my mother in law happy!!, June 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Item arrived on time - the ability to track while in process was definitively an asset! Exactly as shown, surpassed expectations. Included interesting topics I'd forgotten I'd once known about. Good ideas for starting conversations and/or filling "gaps" in sometimes slow dinner parties. Bought as a gift for my mother in law and she loved it - now she's sending me one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another desk essential!, August 12, 2009
This book, along with My Grammar and I Or Should It Be Me?: Old School Ways to Improve Your English and i before e (except after c) are essential books to have on your desk! Since I do a lot of writing (and social networking), I want to make sure I know what I am talking about, and am able to write with grammatical accuracy. All of these books are great for not only repairing those mental gaps caused by being an adult and having responsibilites that leave us forgetful, but it helps me remember things I didn't realize I had forgotten! Reader's Digest really hit the nail on the head with these informative pieces! I can't wait to see what they come up with next!

4.0 out of 5 stars Back to school; all over again., August 20, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book takes me back to my school days. Grades 5 to 9 are well represented. Yes, at one time I know this stuff; but, have forgotten much of what I once knew. It is always easier to relearn what was once known..A GOOD REFRESHER FOR GRADE/MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDIES. Use it to quiz family members; make it a fun game.

5.0 out of 5 stars NOT ONLY STUFF I FORGOT, BUT THINGS I NEVER EVEN KNEW!!!, January 6, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book is both fun, and chocked full of. great stuff! It gives a pretty complete overview of english, literature, math, science, history, geography, and general studies. I read some reviews that suggested that the author should have given more info, especially, in math and literature. That is not what this book is about, hence the word OVERVIEW. It is free, fun, and goes over a lot of facts. If you want more, buy a math book.
