If you have been buying books using only the free guides put out by the various state and regional bookseller associations, you might be cheating yourself. You will find many dealers listed in The Used Book Lover's Guide that are not listed in the guides put out by bookseller associations. The books can be used as travel guides to help you plan your book hunting trips or as desk references when you want to contact dealers by phone, mail or on-line., The guides give you all the information you need to find the books you're searching for, including: a detailed description of the dealer's stock including specialties and the approximate size of the collection, store hours, easy to follow travel directions, city, regional and state maps, dealer services, e-mail addresses and web sites, a comprehensive Specialty Index and valuable comments about the stores (based on the authors' actual visits) that help you decide if the store is likely to have the types of books you're interested in.

Great guide for where to shop,

I bought the 1993 edition while I was living in Central NY and can only comment on the Central NY listings. I found the format easy to skim through and the maps/directions extremely helpful. All the information you might want is included--phone numbers, hours of operation, genres sold, etc. Occasionally the description of a store's offerings was not quite right, or the place in question no longer existed, but such changes can happen when there are several years between editions. I intend to buy the edition for NC once I get moved in.
