About the Author

Christopher L. Webber is an Episcopal priest who has served inner city, suburban, and overseas parishes. He is also the author of Re-Inventing Marriage, The Vestry Handbook (Revised Edition), Welcome to the Episcopal Church, The User's Guide to the Book of Common Prayer: Holy Eucharist I & II, and The Users Guide to the Book of Common Prayer: Morning Prayer and Baptism, all available from Morehouse Publishing.

More About the Author

Cuba, New York, is my home town though I haven't lived there in many years. It's the kind of town everyone should be able to grow up in. It gave me the background to go on to Princeton and seminary and serve a variety of Episcopal Churches: urban, suburban, overseas, and rural. Parish ministry is a great school of writing with a weekly sermon and a monthly mailing to make sure you get plenty of practice. Marriage and family - four children and four grandchildren - rounds out the picture of a generally happy life. If writers are supposed to be unhappy, I don't fit the picture!

As a newcomer to leading Morning Prayer I found this book invaluable in developing the understanding and confidence that I needed. During Lent I purchased multiple copies of this for my parish so that others would also feel empowered to lead morning or evening prayer. Fr. Webber concisely frames Morning Prayer in its historical context and provides valuable insights though the use of running commentary in a parallel page format throughout the text of the prayer service. By explaining the purpose of each component Fr. Webber removes the uncomfortable sense of not knowing why or if participation includes recitation of all of the various components that comprise Morning Prayer. After reading this book anyone should feel at peace in leading a morning or evening prayer service.

My daughter and I both have the book of common prayer but I have the guide and over our vacation time we were able to use the user guide to our advantage. It was very helpful and got us on an organized track so that we could go through the offices effortlessly and understand what we were doing in a matter of minutes. I highly recommend this user guide as a companion to the book of common prayer. Frankly, to have the book of common prayer without the user guide I believe would be a serious mistake. The user guide helps you make the most out of the book of common prayer and I highly recommend it. By the way, my daughter recommends it too!

This is a great book to use with the Book of Common Prayer. It has highlights, page numbers and quotes to help explain different areas. I'm a newcomer to the BCP and I am pleased at how this book helped.
