1.0 out of 5 stars Only recommended if you are migrating from C++ to JAVA, November 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Using Java 1.2 (Using ... (Que)) (Paperback)
In my opinion, there are 2 major flaws with this book: - it is intended for C++ programmers moving to JAVA (which I'm not) & the organisation of the content lacks structure. Of the 5 JAVA books I have read this is close to the weakest, which is a shame as the author tries to cover ground which other books don't do e.g. UML, design patterns, SQL. The author definitely has excellent knowledge of the material but it is presented in a confusing style - poor layout and too much waffle and irrelevant information. If you want a pure JAVA book or have no knowledge of C++ development, try something else.

2.0 out of 5 stars Using Java1.2, September 13, 2000

Yes and No. The book is excellent at giving an overview of many concepts that are pertinent to understanding the plethora of all that comprise the Java technology and how it all generally works together. But as for an intermediate rated programming book with lots of programming examples, it is terrible. The book is notorious for talking about Java programming concepts and never showing you how to do it nor giving effective coding samples. As for presenting Java programming, the book reminds me of bumping into somebody in bar who claims to be a "Java developer/programmer" and talks all the snappy terminology. Then when you ask them a specific question, they change the subject.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a good book, July 13, 2000
This review is from: Using Java 1.2 (Using ... (Que)) (Paperback)
I bought this book because of the publisher. I read good computer book from the same publisher before. But this book really disappointed me. I read the first few chapters of this book, but I don't want to spend my time on this book anymore. This book is not organized, it is hard to read, it does not have easy to understand example. It is definitely not for beginner. Save your time and money, buy another JAVA book.
