Editorial Reviews

Review

"Generating Contrast does a wonderful job of explaining how three of the methods used to observe living cells work...The underlying concepts are not easy to explain, but this tape succeeds in explaining them with remarkably clear text and animation...What might have been a rather dull presentation on optics becomes instead a powerful teaching tool."

5.0 out of 5 stars The beauty of Microscopy, April 1, 2010
This review is from: Using Microscopy, Volume 2: Generating Contrast: Phase Contrast, DIC, & Immunofluorescence [VHS] (VHS Tape)
To those impoverished souls subject to using their microscopes with minimum training, and those poor dregs still forced to see all things small through the weak lens of a magnifying glass the answer to your every question has arrived. Before I get to the in depth review of this exquisite instructional video, nay priceless work of art, I must first mention its predecessor "Using Microscopy, Volume 1." I still remember how my eyes were opened and my world was magnified after absorbing the information in this film. With this film I learned to create a slide, hold the microscope, plug it in, and turn it on. This created in me an ecstatic sense of the importance inherent in being the dominant species of this planet as I stared at the small squirming creatures filling my narrow and now powerful field of vision. But alas it was not enough and it was not until a chance encounter on http://www.amazon.com/ that at last I could continue my most important of scientific endeavors.
Thankfully my many discoveries have left me with an enormous wealth of cash for which to quickly procure and watch the continuation of my studies. For you see what I was able to do with my aforementioned limit knowledge was miniscule in comparison to what I learned from the first installment. I was utterly flabbergasted to learn that I was watching the world out of focus and out of contrast. Upon using the "fine adjustment" and "coarse adjustment" knobs all became clear. Do not be confused or put off by these technical terms as all will be explained with the greatest methods and most elegant words. I now understand that which is unknown and hope you too will join me in my future microscopic endeavors!
