Amazon.com Review

Not so much a tutorial as a reference book for beginners, Using Microsoft FrontPage 98 is an ideal introduction for users who want to learn FrontPage 98 at their own pace, without a lot of handholding and step-by-step plans. The book is divided into larger sections that cover topics such as getting started, learning the basics of FrontPage 98, using the editor to create pages, managing your pages and sites, and generating graphics with Image Explorer. Each of these sections is divided into smaller chapters that explain specific points. In addition to information about the core essentials of FrontPage, you'll find plenty of helpful material on the latest features in 98, including the Channel Definition Format (CDF) Wizard, Dynamic HTML, Table Tools, and cascading style sheets.

2.0 out of 5 stars Shouldn't use Beta when writing reference books, January 16, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Using Microsoft Frontpage 98 (Paperback)
I have to say I was very disappointed in this book. The authors obviously used a Beta copy of both FP 98 and Image Composer. There are many places where there is simply incorrect information. For example, the description of using the Database Wizard to integrate your pages with a database...it was part of FP 97 and no longer exists. Another example, the early screen shots of Image Composer show version 1.0...version 1.5 ships with FP 98.

The majority of the book is filled with non-FP topics, such as ActiveX and VBSScript. Although those are important topics for Web designers, they seem to just be filler because there is so little information about FP itself.
