5.0 out of 5 stars Best Yet!, May 18, 2007
This review is from: Utah's Incredible Backcountry Trails (Perfect Paperback)
I have been hiking Utah's trails for many years, and I am always looking for new places to explore. I have already looked through most of Utah's other hiking guides, and I have to tell you that this one is without a doubt the best one out there. It is informative, easy to read, the maps are excellent, and, most of all, the color photographs that illustrate the trails will blow you away. It is a little more expensive than the other guides, but definately worth it!

I got this book along with 10 other books from the library when I moved into the area. All the other books went back to the library but this one. After rechecking out like 4 times, I realized it was indispensable!
I have used this to make sure my family of three young kids does not miss anything. Also, I have used it to decide on and plan a few major adventures. I am confident that I will have done the best hikes there are out here. I love the detailed descriptions, logistics, maps, photos, and especially the ratings!

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Leave Home Without It (for adventure in Utah)!, March 10, 2009

This is a great book with good directions and great photos. It covers trails that aren't in other guide books. I have one of David Day's earlier publications on hiking and 4-wheeling in Canyonlands National Park and have followed his directions to very enjoyable sites. I just bought this one and can't wait to try it out in 3 weeks when I go to Utah for a month. One of the good things about David Day's books are that he's "been there and done that." He's not an armchair guide book author.

This is a beautiful book with color pictures and wonderful detail. This book is worthwhile reading even if you don't hike, you can be an armchair hiker and learn about all the beautiful places Utah has to offer. I bought it for my son and now it is on my want list.

5.0 out of 5 stars A hiker and Scoutmaster's best resource, March 27, 2011
This review is from: Utah's Incredible Backcountry Trails (Perfect Paperback)
I've used this book for years now, both for personal hikes and as a Scoutmaster, and I keep going back to it every year. The biggest problem with hiking and camping in Utah is knowing and choosing where to go among countless options (a nice problem to have). This guide gives you an insider's knowledge to help make that choice: the best trails described; time and number of days needed for a trail; elevations and feet gained and lost on a trail; best time of year to make the hike; key highlights of the trail; a nice rating system letting us know which trails the writer feels are the most exceptional hikes; and great photography. It is well organized, first by Northern and Southern Utah, then trails are grouped in the same vicinity, so you'll know what else is close by if you want to plan for more than what one trail requires.

The book is a great read to boot, and it gets me excited to make my next trip. Finally, the true hallmark of a superior guidebook is when you discover lesser known gems about places you've already visited. This book is full of such tips--I learned fantastic things about trails near my home town, and even about national parks where I had been and used excellent maps, that I did not know before. If you plan to hike or camp in any of Utah's back country, your trip will be better with this book as your resource. Get this book and you'll wear it out.
