This review is from: Utes: The Mountain People (Paperback)
I bought this book to broaden my knowledge of the Indian tribes native to Colorado. You hear a lot about the Plains tribes, but not about the Utes. With this book, I filled in a few of the holes in my knowledge.

This book was bought because I live in the the area where the Ute Tribes used to live. Thier history is everywhere here since a lot of our place names are of Ute origin including the former name of the town, Uncompahgre. The river still bears the name here in Western Colorado but the towns name has changed. The culture comes alive again every September since the Utes gather for the Pow Wow.
The book begins in the pre-history of the tribe before the white settlers came and follows the culture beyond the time they were moved to the reservation and into the present. |
