Good example of Golden age rap,
By
This review is from: Utfo (Audio CD)
UTFO hit high schoolers and young adults full force with "Roxanne Roxanne" in 1984, with it's simple beats and amusing story. If you were in junior high, high school or a freshman or sophomore in college in 1984 who was into Black music, you'll remember this. Classic, innocent pre-gangster rap filled with sprase beats, amusing rhymes, and excellent delivery. Kangol Kid, Dr. Ice, the Educated Rapper, and Mixmaster Ice made an excellent debut (remember how the teenybopper girls swooned over "Fairytale Lover?"). Sadly, UTFO and rap music itself would take the low road lyrically as time went on.

A must have for all rap fans,
By MG Pathania (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews

I got this on vinyl for my 6th grade graduation and am glad it's finally out in the digital format. Roxanne, Roxanne started a craze in 1985 that would lead to several disses and reply tracks - Real Roxanne, Roxanne Shante, Sparky D, etc...If you're a fan of hip hop, you really should own this album. This is classic old school. Highlights include: Leader of the Pack, Beats and Rhymes, Hanging Out and the afore mentioned Roxanne, Roxanne. The only way you will be disappointed in this album is if you hate old school.

UTFO - The True Meaning of Hip Hop,
By Bill "B. Roddriedriez Connor" (Columbus, GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Utfo (Audio CD)
This album is one of my all-time favorites. If you are a fan of old school hip hop, I recommend you to purchase this album. This album also tells you what hip hop is really all about. Hip hop of today is all about the money which hip hop in the history was all about having fun. The hip hop artists of yesterday have put more meaning to their songs which hip hop artists of today just put out anything to make money. This album contains rhymes laced with simple beats which less sampling was involved.I also have the vinyl version of this album. My mother have bought this album for my birthday when I first turned into a teenager. I still enjoy this album until this day. My favorite tracks of this album are: "Leader of the Pack," "Beats & Rhymes," the big hit UTFO is very famous for which is "Roxanne Roxanne," "Bite It," "The Real Roxanne" which features Roxanne, which she disses UTFO, and "Callin Her A Crab (Roxanne Part 2)" which is a song answers to "The Real Roxanne" which UTFO disses back on Roxanne. This album is an archive for your collection for the true hip hop fans! Go ahead and cop this album.

I remember listening to this album when I was 10, and I am still mesmerized by it 15 yrs later. One of those albums that stays with you. So many song styles to match any mood.

Lots of memories with this one,
By

Man, this CD brings back more memories (tied with Run DMC's first two releases, and Whodini's Back In Black) than any tape, album, CD I have ever listened to. Except for Fairytale Lover, this CD has been played atleast 100 times by me and my family. Oh man, talkin' about this almost brings a tear to my eye. These cats had a monster flow, and even though it is outdated, you can tell that Educated Rapper and Kangol Kid were monsters on the mic throughout most of this joint.
[QUOTE] I said "This is very rare because I don't say this every day There's a million medical skills a doctor displays Dermatology is treatment of the skin Infected and you'll see me and you'll know you're again There's enthesiology, opthomology Internal medicine and plastic surgery Orpedic surgery and pathology A disease involves a change of the body." [UnQUOTE] That is one of the illest flows ever! That is classic ish! Leader of the Pack had some of the illest scratchin' ever. If you don't know what scratchin' (turntabilsm) is, then you don't know Hip Hop or its roots. Roxanne Roxanne and Real Roxanne. Classic story/diss tracks. Forever buried and instantly memorable and quoted by those of us who remember the pre-golden age. Beats and Rhymes may be my personal favorite track on here. Almost no one remembers this one. I could go on, but like I said this is and always will be one of my favorite albums.

Takes me back,
This review is from: Utfo (Audio CD)
I don't know if this album is as good as I think it is but in elementary school this was great. On a side note, I was upset to hear that Cool C is sitting on death row.

This was the first record I ever purchased when I began to collect music. This album is a classic and it speaks for itself! Had to get this on CD, which I turned to MP3 format. Everyone talks about how rappers nowadayz sing, I just say go back in history and rappers, like UTFO, have always used that singing format to producer a alternative sound to their style, which I enjoy! I love the songs Fairytale Lover, Hanging Out & Roxanne, Roxanne! Classic Material!

Old school as it gets...,

This is from the beginning of hip-hop, before street rap... the innocent days of the scratch. Brings back some nice memories of the 1980's and you'll see how much hip-hop has changed since then. Nice beats & rhymes, it ain't about much else (entre le scratch!).
