After two days of light use the cap will not tighten to the lighter because the threads on the cap do not match the threads on the housing. This means I can't leave fluid in the lighter which means it cannot be used. It is obvious True Utility let this product bypass quality control inspection which is unacceptable. However, I will make a new housing for the lighter and continue to use it.
I cannot not recommend this lighter to anyone.
Amazon did a great job packing and shipping the products and I received everything a day early.
Once you fill this thing up it will consistantly produce a light. Simply pull up on the striker and the internal fluid storage pod will slide right out, offering storage for the lighter fluid. Spin that wheel with your finger and you will have your fire. Conveniently, you may use all the same parts as a zippo, the flint, wicks, and lighter fluid. This significantly prolongs the life of this lighter as well, it is not disposable by any means. However, this offers one HUGE advantage over a zippo besides its tiny size, it won't dry out on you when you need it. It is sealed water tight with an 0-ring so no moisture can't get in or out unless you want it to. Mind you, do not take this think diving or submerge it for any great length of time. It is water-resistant, not completely waterproof. The finish on this lighter seems rugged and able to withstand the test of time. Yes, it will scratch on a keychain, but it will only be a minor surface blemish and only give it character and prove you use the thing.
However, there are downsides to this product. Its small size limits the amount of fluid and consequently, the amount of use you will get without refilling. In addition, the botton of the lighter is rounded off and will not stand on a surface if needed. If you needed two hands to perform a task while needing a light as well, this lighter will have to be propped up somehow. Also, i didn't like the "squared off" keyring, but I don't like any chrome keyrings as they chip and diminish over time.Read more ›
The FireStash arrived a couple days after my other Amazon products in the same order, but those were shipped directly from an Amazon warehouses and this did not, so that is understandable. The FireStash is really high quality, no blemishes on the metal, fits on my keychain well, and was easy to fill with zippo-type lighter fluid after I bought some at a corner store.
I then had a problem with the screw-on part. To give you a visual, the keychain part is the cap to the lighter, and the lighter has threads to screw into the cap. There is an o-ring on the lighter to ensure that when the lighter is properly screwed on that the lighter fluid does not evaporate and/or maybe it helps with making the screw tight as well.
However, I noticed that if you screw the lighter into the cap, there is no stopping point, it just gets tighter and tighter until it resets on a lower thread and becomes loose again. Not sure if this was specifically related to how I was screwing it on or whatever, but it was difficult to ensure that the lighter was tightly and securely screwed into the cap. This led the lighter to fall out of the cap at some point on my early ownership and now it's gone.
Overall, really great idea for a great price, but either I'm doing something wrong or the connection between the cap and lighter needs to be re-thought. I would love to give it 5 stars, but I can't since I only owned it for a week before it fell off my keychain.
There are MUCH better products out there for a few dollars more, and no... you don't have to be Clint Eastwood to get this. Try google-ing "peanut lighter" and you will find something made of stainless steel, with an actual internal o-ring that is shielded from pocket debris and erosion, and that relies on gentle compression instead of a vice like twist seal toy-seal similar to this product. This means is that the gasket will last a lot longer on the other product and I forget what I paid, maybe $14, and the makers of the peanut actually drive over it with a truck to illustrate the strength (not that I'm plugging this other mfgr, so I won't even mention their web site, but you'll find it in a certain county perhaps).
Instead of this China-pot-metal trinket that belongs free with a cap gun, sporting corroded cap popping studs and a rusty hammer, seriously get yourself an actual stainless type and save your $10 for a couple of happy meals.
Two stars to be fair to the fact that it does light and produce fire, and if kept in a drawer, wrapped in tissue paper, with gentle twisting force applied ONLY, ...this lighter will look OK and probably light your vanilla-chai candles just fine.

It's a good idea in concept, but the execution is terrible and I would never hope to rely on this as a fire source. Read morePublished 12 days ago by willblake
