Driving, eclectic, challenging, April 18, 2008
This review is from: Uzbekistani Bizarre & Souk (Audio CD)
As with all of Bryn Jones' work, the complexity of his tracks can, at first, seem overwrought and unstructured. As you listen and let the elements of the music "sink in", the intertwining sounds, layered samples and intricate manipulation of sound reveals itself. While not always "beautiful" in sound, I definitely find Muslimgauze extraordinarily interesting and worthwhile to listen to.
If you're looking for a more consumable collection (to get you introduced to the Bryn Jones style before jumping into an album like this one), try the "Abu-Dis" album. It is a remix album with tracks manipulated by other artists, many of whom having introduced a more standard beat, etc, making it more "accessible" if you're used to "normal" ambient/techno.
