It seems to be nicely made, and to use solid, heavy duty materials.

Not fight a war with... Afghanistan was eating through my pens though...) It's hard to get the writing tip out (Twist the end, instead of pull cap off or click).

It's nicely configured...sort of like a fine machined tool, with lots of gripping/holding surfaces.

In a market crowded with high-end and overpriced "tactical pens" that run from $80 to $130, this heavy duty and well made Uzi pen is a welcome addition. Tactical pens are a rather dicey proposition. First of all, they are inherently a weapon of last resort, as you aren't going to be able to stop a determined attacker with one. Secondly, the prices for some of them seem borderline ridiculous. However, they do have their uses: you can legally carry them in places you can't carry knives (even on airplanes in some cases, although I hear some airport screeners are flagging the really obvious ones). You can use them in a pinch as a glass breaker. And of course, you can write with them. In the end, I guess I'd rather have one than not have one.

Besides the price, here are some of the specifics I like about this Uzi pen:
* It has the glass breaker tip, which really is strong enough to break glass (I tried it). Be warned: it takes the finish off the tip when you use it on things! I punched it through some thin boards, some glass, and some heavy cardboard. It works, but now it's down to bare metal on the tip. This tip seems far more useful than the one on the other Uzi pen, the one that claims you can use the tip to capture DNA from an assailant. What a ridiculous marketing ploy!

* It has no separate cap to lose. I really like this feature. Most tac pens have a separate or twist-on cap, both of which seem like a huge pain. This pen simply twists open or closed, and it has a nice heavy, smooth twisting motion so it won't easily twist itself open in a pocket.

* It seems to be nicely made, and to use solid, heavy duty materials. For the price, I'm surprised at the quality of this pen.

* It writes well.

This is a quality instrument. I've read the reviews of all other (under $25) Amazon-supplied devices, and this is the only one in the category that some reviewer did NOT have a major complaint about. It's the perfect weight and size (some reviewers of other such devices described them as cigar-sized); and a lot of reviewers complained that their cap fell off `the business end' too easily. Others complained that the pocket clip was too loose or too tight; and some reviewers mentioned flaking metal surfaces. But this one has none of those `imperfections' and I really like it. It's just the right length and `girth'; the weight gives it a decent `heft', but it's not too heavy (and I'm no mountain man)...you won't even be aware it's in your pocket. It has two business ends, and the glass breaker end is like a slightly rounded point that's just effective enough to do the job, but not enough to get you in any trouble with `authorities'. It's nicely configured...sort of like a fine machined tool, with lots of gripping/holding surfaces. It's not sleek and sexy however...it's more like something out of a "Matrix" movie...you might call it `mechanically futuristic'. And unlike some other well known brands, nothing on the pocket clip displays a brand name that would alert anyone to what you are carrying (like "S...+W..."). If used properly, it will apply a good blunt, concentrated force to the right `tissue' (but almost no `penetration' is likely possible with this device...as is true with most of these items). It's not a brandishing or deterrent instrument however. As I told a friend of mine when I gave her a kydex-sheathed belt clip diminutive knife..."If you aren't prepared to take it out and `insert' it in the right spot with ½ to ¾ seconds, don't even bother to take it out".Read more ›

Excellent quality, very solid, good pen once you change out the refill. I would give it five stars except for the clip, which is so stiff as to be almost totally useless. If you buy it as a tactical pen, you should plan to carry it all the time - but the clip is so stiff there is no way you are going to carry this in anything but a duty shirt or a heavy sport shirt with deep pockets. I'm keeping it as a novelty, but will seldom carry it unless I can figure out a way to loosen the clip a bit.

I admit that I bought this pen more for curiousity value than any real interest in knocking out a window with it in the first week of ownership. That being said I will mention some positives first - It is a very heavy built and strong pen. I seriously doubt you could break it without a lot of effort. It is also quite cool looking.

Now for the negatives: first of all - it is worthless as a pen. Perhaps once I buy a replacement cartridge like most people recommend it will be better, but as it comes from the vendor it does not write very well at all. As a matter of fact unless you do a few circles before every use and press quite hard, it won't write reliably at all. Next, the pen is a "twist" style, but it take a good 5 twists to get the tip exposed or covered. In other words it is a very slow and tedious process - not something I want in a writing instrument. The clip is so strong that you can barely use it and the area right under the clip is heavily textured so anything you do manage to clip it to will be roughed up and damaged quite quickly. The clip also gets in your way if you are trying to hold it in your hand and use it as "a tactical pen." So the clip doesn't add anything to the function of the pen. Lastly despite it's heavy construction it came to me with an flawed finish, there are several shiny silver spots at various point in the pen.

In summary it looks kind of cool, but isn't really worth much as it is.
