V6 Performance Review,
By Ben Zukowski (Missouri, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: V-6 Performance (Paperback)
This has been a great assett to me while I was building my Chevorlet 2.8L V6. The manual was very easy to read with very simple and easy to follow calculations, and offered to me a vast knowledge of information regarding performance modifications to the engine. This includes camshaft, intake, carbueration, exhaust, transmission, and machining selections. V6 performance covers Chevorlet, Ford, and Buick applications, both 60 degree and 90 degree versions of all motors. A must for those that wish to have light-wieght power house while also having very good streetability and fuel conservation. Supercharging and turbo charging modifications and applications are discussed throughly.

Of course it's out of date, but seems useful!,

Yeah, of course it's out of date. It's not like it was published this year (2002). For anyone who knows about books, the will also know that once a book is published it is thereafter "out of date".A revision would be nice, but I found the book extremely helpful. I got everything out of it that I wanted. Of course, I wasn't looking for aftermarket parts or I would have found a catalog (whether it be online or not). It told me a lot about the engines I wanted to know about (especially the chevy 2.8!). For those who lack reading skills, I can see how it would be a troublesome book though. Overall, this book was good. Just make sure to read it knowing what time the book was made (I do believe the 1980s). So, if you have a car from the 80s with a v6, I would recommend this book.

Oldie but goodie!,
By Bobby Jr. "Bobby Jr." (USA!) - See all my reviews
This review is from: V-6 Performance (Paperback)
This is an old book as stated below, but I originally bought it in the 1980's for help on my Buick even-fire 3.2 V-6. It proved very helpful there, and the section on Ford's 60 degree V-6 is the largest in the book. The Chevy section is very sparse, so look elsewhere if you need help on one of those engines. GM used to put out a Power Manual on Chevys that was available at any dealership's part's department that had a great deal of info on the Chevy V-6's. You might check and see if they still carry this if you need more information on the Chevy V-6's. It should prove very up to date if they do.

v6 Performance,

This book is very out dated!! It is a history of the V6 engine up to the early 80's. Look for a more up to date book.

VERY OUT OF DATE,
By '85 GMC S-15 JIMMY 2.8L (Edmonds, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: V-6 Performance (Paperback)
This book is VERY out of date (1986). The text states "Virtually no aftermarket bolt-on performance pieces currently exist for this new engine..." This is simply not true today. There are numerous bolt-on products available through mail order, local area shops and dozens of web sites devoted entirely to this particular engine and its applications. Also, the section on the Chevy 60o 2.8L (the reason I bought the book) is only 17 pages! My recommendation would be to save the money you would spend on this book and apply it to the performance parts that really are out there. Surfing the web produced LOTS of links and more information than this book.

A reasonable guide to V6 engines.,

This review is from: V-6 Performance (Paperback)
This book has been around for several years. Its a reasonable book by "S-A Design" so you know its a good book.Covers Buick,Ford and Chev V6's.Not a comprehensive-step by step rebuilding but its okay for its age.
If you are thinking of restoring an old V6 engined car this book might be a good place to start. If an indepth book is what you are after consider a workshop manual type book for the cars the engine was orginally fitted in. I hope this book will be updated. |
