5.0 out of 5 stars Yet another great Vcube product
This was the last of the Vcube products I purchased. I started with the Vcube 5, then the Vcube 7, and eventually the Vcube 6. This was the last of the Vcube products I purchased. I started with the Vcube 5, then the Vcube 7, and eventually the Vcube 6. My reviews on the 5 and 7 pretty much sum up what I think of the quality and ease of use of the Vcube line, and the Vcube 6 is just as sturdy and easy to turn as the other two. You will not find a better quality cube at any given layer level than a Vcube.

Another reviewer mentioned the clicking that this cube makes, and that is definitely something you will notice when first using this cube. This was done intentionally to make sure that the layers all line up once you've made a complete 90 degree turn of any given layer. Without the clicking, the layers could become "misaligned" and "lock up," making turning the cube in a different direction impossible until you click the first layer back into place. This "locking up" of the cube still occasionally happens, even with the clicking mechanism in place, but it doesn't happen often enough to be a problem. Besides that minor annoyance, I do love this cube. But if I had to be honest, it falls third to the 5 and 7. That could mostly be due to my affinity for odd layered cubes though, and no fault of the Vcube 6 itself.

I also saw that another reviewer claimed to not have received instructions on how to put this back together. They are definitely included in the package, but could be easy to over look, as they are printed on a thin strip of tri-folded paper that look exactly like the bottom of the packaging. Please make sure you remove this insert from the package before throwing away the box.

As a side note, I've found an entirely new and fun way to play with this and any of the other Vcubes. Each cube is prone to the occasional piece popping out if you turn it the wrong way, or force it, so Vcube has graciously included instructions on how to put these cubes back together. I've found that intentionally taking the cube apart and then putting it back together can be an enjoyable activity, especially for people that like building toys such as Legos. I've taken this cube apart multiple times and put it back together, and it still turns and handles exactly like the day I took it out of the package. It's like getting a puzzle and a building set in one!

This is a challenge to keep together. No matter how careful the pieces are moved they will still fly out on occasion. When some of the inner pieces come out it is a major disassembly and reassembly to fix it. I have had almost half of the cube disintegrate in my hand while very carefully moving the pieces around. Taking the cube apart and reassembling it is an interesting challenge and can be as much of a puzzle as the cube itself. If I did not enjoy solving the mystery of how things work I would have thrown it in the trash. It was a very expensive item to be so unreliable in function. My 4 and 5 cubes do not have the problem. Do not use this cube in a place that you might have a problem locating the many small pieces when it explodes on you. If you loose even one of the small inner pieces the cube will just disintegrate on you every time you try to solve it. I had this happen to me till I found one tinny piece under the couch and tore the cube apart to find where it went. In spite of the daily frustration of the popping parts it is my favorite cube to solve.

Very fun cube, if you like to impress people with your mad skills. You pretty much have to know how to solve a 4 layer cube (A.K.A Rubik's Revenge) in order to deal with the flipped edge pairings and swapped corner issues that you don't encounter on odd layer cubes (3, 5, and 7). I opened the package and scrambled it- and solved it in 45 minutes while talking on the phone to my girlfriend. I credit the slick turning of the V-Cube design for that. I recommend it to anyone who knows the cube well and is looking to gain bragging rights, but not for someone seeking a new challenge. If you can do the 4, this is an easy step up. For a real challenge, try the 7 layer.

This is a really nice cube. I really love the way it's built. It's sturdy, but once in a while when turning the top three layers a piece comes loose and it wobbles a little, but you twist it again and it fixes. For a puzzle as big as this, it's very sturdy.

This is a very well built cube. Hard to turn at first but then again I am not solving it constantly so that it is very loose. It is a challenging cube and extremely fun to tear apart and put back together for those that are interested in solving it and understanding the mechanics of the entire cube. I would be sure to lube this cube so that it isn't grinding the pieces as much and will turn somewhat more easily. I have read that the pieces pop very often on this cube but it has only done this once for me, it will pop more though with speed solving it at a rate faster that what I solve it at, which is about 12 minutes or so. I would definitely recommend this cube to any cube enthusiast. I also recommend that you get some tiles instead of stickers because less than a week with this cube and the stickers are already starting to peel. Overall this is a great cube for impressing people and for the challenge it gives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 6x6x6 cube!, December 14, 2011

Before I got his cube I owned and could solve all cubes from 2-5. This was my first V-Cube. Since then I have also received the 7x7x7 V-Cube as a gift.

This cube is well-built! It has a nice heft that lest you know they didn't skimp on materials. The stickers on all my other cubes started to wear and peel off after a while so before I received this cube I ordered replacement stickers from CubeSmith for this cube as well as the 7x7x7. After spending many hours using both cubes the stickers are still perfect. I do mean perfect, just like the day I opened the packaging. I may never use the replacement stickers.

The internal mechanism on this cube requires you to completely rotate the slice in order to rotate an orthogonal slice. There are sort-of steps you can feel when rotating the slices. There are 2 or 3 discreet positions the cube will want to rest at during the rotation. If you don't get the last slice rotated correctly you won't be able to rotate the next slice. It's a little odd but you get used to it quickly. This is different from most cubes and some people don't like it as much. The 7x7x7 V-Cube does not have this internal structure. After using both i slightly prefer the discreet positions on the 6x6x6. I think it helps prevent under rotating before the next twist where you would sometimes stress an edge piece and sometimes even crank it out of place.

I was worried I wouldn't like the black stickers and white plastic but I like it very well. V-Cube does make a black plastic with white sticker version but it's not as sharp.

I love this cube and use it often.

Being a proud owner of other v-cubes (2, 5 and 7), and having found them to be extraordinary products, I finally decided to complete my collection. My first impressions with this v-cube 6 were that it was entirely different from all other v-cubes.

While the V-Cube 5 is Rubik's cube perfection and the V-Cube 7 is absolutely awesome, the V-Cube 6 is far from that.

This cube is harder to turn than the other V-Cubes. As a matter of fact, my hands were burning after my first solve. It's not that bad now, but it's never been as smooth as any of my other v-cubes.

It has a tendency to pop out a couple of pieces from time to time. However, it's never been worse than that, and putting them back together was rather easy (this happened to me only once with the V-Cube 7, and it's unheard of in the V-Cube 5).

Also, I have to keep reminding myself to turn the layers and have them "snap". If the turn is not properly done, the cube gets completely stuck (turning other layers in random directions seems to take things back to normal). The cube gets stuck at least once every time I solve it.

Once I got used to all that, I find this cube to be pretty enjoyable, though I would not recommend speedcubing with this particular product.

I am a fan of Rubik's cubes (I have the 3x3x3, the 4x4x4 and the 5x5x5) and all of them are great!
We know that its assembly is pure mathematics, but every time you play with them,it's very funny. Even my boy (14) enjoys a lot!
As soon as I get used with this new cube, for sure I will purchase other variations.
