Cheap for good reason..,

This review is from: V-Moda Sport Series Headphones for iPhone/iPod/MP3/CD with Bonus Carrying Case and Airplane Adapters (Electronics)
Flat and muddy. Wooden bass and no spacial dimension of music possible. I really wanted to like these as Costco has a good price for them (Sport Series V-Moda) but unfortunately there is nothing to rave about. They'll be going back. Don't waste your money if you are looking for an upgrade of your MP3 stock earbuds. The nice little kit included is not why I would be buying any headphones. I'll be trying the Vibes and hope that all the positive reviews out there are accurate. Otherwise it's back to my Bose (even though the earpieces are a pain to deal with while traveling)

Poor-sounding, poorly-built, and a poor value,

V-Moda has a fairly good reputation for their Vibe series, which are a bit gimmicky but sound fairly decent for cheap in-ears. So when I saw these on sale at a local Costco, I thought they would be a reasonable impulse buy.
Positives: The cable length is pretty close to perfect at 4'; not too short, not too long. They don't stick out too far from your head, nor are that pearly white that just screams, "I have an expensive MP3 player, please target me for mugging immediately". Negatives: These things add a large amount of artificial bass, which ultimately comes across as muddy and dull. Highs and mids are subdued and sound lifeless. With my iPod, I was able to get a sound only slightly better than the stock iPod headphones by using the "Bass Reducer" or "Treble Booster" EQ presets. Since the iPhone headphones arguably only sound good to people with a tin ear, this is saying a lot. As for the build quality, aside from metal housings, they are not exactly awe-inspiring. The wiring is flimsy and the connector is tin. The mesh screens are coarse next to a comparable model from a superior manufacturer (e.g. Sennheiser, Shure, AKG). If you're human, the speakers in these things will likely become contaminated with earwax. Conclusion: At the price, it would be difficult _not_ to find better-quality headphones. Even if you're the type that thinks iPod earphones sound decent, there's no reason to settle on these when you can get much better for the same price... even if you cannot properly appreciate the difference. Buying them on a whim was a huge mistake on my part, and I will be returning them. Please take my experience into consideration if you are thinking of doing the same.

Baffled by the bad reviews,

I really am at a loss to understand the negative reviews of this. I bought a different pair of noise isolation ear buds that were rated 4+ stars and they were horrible! I picked these up at [...]o for 29.99, and I thought they were amazing. Maybe I'm just not an audiophile enough to appreciate really good sound, but these are the best pair of $30 ear buds I have ever owned. And they do a decent job of noise isolation too.
