3.0 out of 5 stars Better for older kids, January 28, 2005

This review is from: Vtech - V.Smile - Spider-Man & Friends (Toy)
I have to agree with a couple of the other reviews. This game is a little challenging for young kids. I would think it is good for a typical first grader. That being said, this is my son's favorite of the games because of the characters. He always chooses this one, but becomes frustrated very easily. So, I end up playing. He loves the grocery store game (getting the supplies for the party). I HATE IT. It takes forever and the items on the list don't really look like the items on the shelves. I guess with some practice you would be able to get around the store maze quickly and get the items, but it takes me a while...and then paying for them...again counting out every coin for an endless stream of items. It does hold my son's attention span while I play, but as an adult, I think some of the other games (like Scooby Doo) are more entertaining.

3.0 out of 5 stars Better choice for 1st graders, December 28, 2004
This review is from: Vtech - V.Smile - Spider-Man & Friends (Toy)
We bought this Smartridge to go along with our son's V-Smile. It is a good game, but I had to rate it 3 stars because of the age recommendation. I bought this for my almost 4 year old son and it is very difficult. It is better suited for 6++ year old children. It goes over math concepts like addition, find the missing integer, etc. Otherwise it is a fun game, I only wished they had included better instructions on how to play some of the games.

4.0 out of 5 stars A bit difficult, September 9, 2005
This review is from: Vtech - V.Smile - Spider-Man & Friends (Toy)
I purchased this game and Scooby Doo along with the original purchase of the V-Smile set. I think it wasa bit difficult for a 5&1/2 yr-old. My son DOES love it, but he requests my help for all the spelling parts since he is just learning to do this in school.

Keep in mind that there are several parts of the game that are well-suited for a 5-yr-old. I just feel that they could have kept the parts that require spelling abilities for the more advanced mode of this game. Some of the pictures of items are difficult to decipher. IE: One game requires you to sort plastics/glass/metal garbage into the correct recycle bins. It was hard to tell which was which until after we had played the game several times.

Some of the V-Smile games have a "No Lose" setting, which is nice for beginners. IT prevents the kids from becoming discouraged to quickly. In the Spiderman game, you die pretty quickly on the easiest setting. Wish they had the "No Lose" option on this game.

One option my son loves about this game is being able to switch characters. It is fun, (especially when the little girl across the street comes over to play), for her to be able to be "Spidey-Girl". The characters all have different skills, so it adds an element of fun and a challenge to learn who performs best in different situations. Life is like this: Different people have different strengths and weaknesses... this game reenforces this fact.

My son does love this game and he is beginning to get the hang of some of it now. I would recommend it for children who either have some reading skills, or are atleast in first grade.
