Better for older kids,

I have to agree with a couple of the other reviews. This game is a little challenging for young kids. I would think it is good for a typical first grader. That being said, this is my son's favorite of the games because of the characters. He always chooses this one, but becomes frustrated very easily. So, I end up playing. He loves the grocery store game (getting the supplies for the party). I HATE IT. It takes forever and the items on the list don't really look like the items on the shelves. I guess with some practice you would be able to get around the store maze quickly and get the items, but it takes me a while...and then paying for them...again counting out every coin for an endless stream of items. It does hold my son's attention span while I play, but as an adult, I think some of the other games (like Scooby Doo) are more entertaining.

Better choice for 1st graders,

We bought this Smartridge to go along with our son's V-Smile. It is a good game, but I had to rate it 3 stars because of the age recommendation. I bought this for my almost 4 year old son and it is very difficult. It is better suited for 6++ year old children. It goes over math concepts like addition, find the missing integer, etc. Otherwise it is a fun game, I only wished they had included better instructions on how to play some of the games.

A bit difficult,

I purchased this game and Scooby Doo along with the original purchase of the V-Smile set. I think it wasa bit difficult for a 5&1/2 yr-old. My son DOES love it, but he requests my help for all the spelling parts since he is just learning to do this in school.
Keep in mind that there are several parts of the game that are well-suited for a 5-yr-old. I just feel that they could have kept the parts that require spelling abilities for the more advanced mode of this game. Some of the pictures of items are difficult to decipher. IE: One game requires you to sort plastics/glass/metal garbage into the correct recycle bins. It was hard to tell which was which until after we had played the game several times. Some of the V-Smile games have a "No Lose" setting, which is nice for beginners. IT prevents the kids from becoming discouraged to quickly. In the Spiderman game, you die pretty quickly on the easiest setting. Wish they had the "No Lose" option on this game. One option my son loves about this game is being able to switch characters. It is fun, (especially when the little girl across the street comes over to play), for her to be able to be "Spidey-Girl". The characters all have different skills, so it adds an element of fun and a challenge to learn who performs best in different situations. Life is like this: Different people have different strengths and weaknesses... this game reenforces this fact. My son does love this game and he is beginning to get the hang of some of it now. I would recommend it for children who either have some reading skills, or are atleast in first grade.

Great Game for Pre-Schoolers and above,

This game is really great for Pre-Schoolers and above. I bought it for my son when he was 3 and a half. He had a hard time with it because it had areas that he didn't know were off-screen (garbage collecting portion). The factory portion was really hard for anyone younger than 5 because the battery match-up you have to understand and know patterns really well. It is a great game for kids in Kindergarten and for kids who pick up details really well. It seems to start out like the whole game will be easy for a younger kid, but then it picks up into harder games.

Great Smartridge for 5-6+ age group,

We bought this game for our 6 year old son. The graphics are great and the game is appropriate for his age. He is in 1st grade so he is able to apply the math and spelling he is learning in school to most of the games in this cartridge which focus on math, spelling & vocabulary. Now, my almost 3 year old daughter likes this game also...particulary 1 game in the "Learning Adventures" portion of the cartridge because she doesn't need to know more of the advanced skills such as math etc. she simply needs to know how to manuver the joystick and the jump button. I rated it 4 stars because it is geared more toward the 6-7 age range because of the level of math & spelling knowledge required. The ONLY thing I don't like about the V-Smile cartridges is for 2 player set up. When the 1st player's turn is over, the 2nd player picks up where the 1st player left off rather than the 2nd player re-starting at the beginning of the game or where they last lost their turn...that is frustrating because the kids don't easily recognize who's turn it is. Other than that, the V-smile & this cartridge are great for fun and learning!

My 3-year old just got this game, and he LOVES it. Especially the grocery store part. Some other parts are a little challenging for him, but I know he will have it mastered in not time. Until he played this game, I didn't even realize that he could recognize numbers by sight, although he can already count. Very educational!

Both my son and daughter enjoy this one! The four year old is helped with letter recognintion and the six year likes the math problems. This is more like an actual non-educational video game, where they can dodge flying objects, swing across rivers and the like.

My daughter is in kindergarten and she is only 5 years old. She enjoys the game a great deal. When she plays the game I can hear her laughing, counting and spelling. She enjoys this game and loves the fact that she can switch players, she can choose from spiderman, spidergirl and wolverine. There is a part of the game where they are in the grocery store they learn about produce and different section of the grocery store. She likes to come to the store and show me when the fruit section is compared to where the meat section is. Best of all for me is that she is having fun while she learns. The game is good for both girls and boys. My nephew also enjoys the game and he is also five years old.

this game is a good introduction for the little ones to the more sophisticated vsmile games (4-6). some of the games are too challenging for a 3 (or even 4 or 5 year old)-like addition and subtraction up to 10! and in some of the games they have to figure out to use the little red button so spider man can use a web to jump over a big whole - just jumping won't do it. after i finally figured it out and showed my son, he could do it though. he also likes the grocery store part. he will tell me all the items that (he thinks) he needs and we go around looking for them. he is starting to figure out to find the cake and the bread together and the fruits together - so I think it is teaching him -if not about the foodgroups - just about grouping in general. he likes it, and that's most important. the animation in good. i don't think it is an easy or meaningful game for a typical 3 year old to play (as suggested by the suggested age from toysrus)but 4 and up it's okay, especially with a parents help.
