1.0 out of 5 stars Nope
This book is just tripe to feed off the the "vampire community." Virtually all of the Egyptian references have been culled from the Temple of Set's Order of the Vampyre which predates this book and the "vampire community." If you really want to learn about vampires I suggest you look into the Temple of Set's Order of the Vampyre instead of white washed right hand path...

4.0 out of 5 stars Refinement of an established *really* alternative lifestyle, January 13, 2004
This review is from: V Special Edition (Hardcover)
Vampires excist, at the very least as an oddball lifestyle - if not a group of people who take their disattachment fom everyday life very seriously.

Reading this book I was left befuddled, especially the first section, which I found a repetition of what I read maybe several dozen times in different books or websites. However the authors of the book are blessed with a sense of vision that leads further than that; in the second half of tne book the writers revitalize a vampyre lifestyle (IRL romantic-metaphysical vampyre as opposed to a cinematic vampire). Michelle is obviously the most inspired of the bunch, if I have identified her submissions to this book best. They are all pretty sincere about it, no doubt.

I think the future does remain interesting and promising for these vampyres after reading this book. Everybody in the scene had expected the lifestyle to be on the return, curving back into insignificance or campyness, but the message this book proclaims loudly is that the 90s are *not* over, that this pseudo-gothic romance-of-the-night lifestyle is still alive, that it isn't just hogwash of dressing up and going out and playing messing other people's minds and feelings, thank you, but all about self-growth, independence and predatorial pride in an ever-more draconic word.

From that perspective the book would be a starting point, and little else. It promises more to come and I sure hope they can deliver.

Downside of the book is that it does remain somewhat coloured by the legacy of vampyric movements we might have seen in the 90s. They don't bring anything new in their pseudo-lutheran declaration of freshness and renewal.

The upside is that the people behind the book actually seem to know whaty they are talking about, instead of just parrotting blood-fiend party line and oneliners. They sure have to surmount a barricade of allready established cliche's, prejudice and camp but if they deliver, as said, in sequals to this fairly well-concocted book, they might well be on the road to becoming Kult, Underground and Trendsetting.

5.0 out of 5 stars 1st Book of its Kind, November 2, 2003

This book is a 1st of its kind. Sure, there have been a few attempts by different people throughout the years, but this is the first full tomb I have ever read on the subject of spiritual vampyrism, or Strigoi Vii as it is known here. I would highly recomend this book to anyone even remotely interested in the vampire/vampyre/subculture, even for RPG fans to distinguish fact from fiction.

5.0 out of 5 stars V, need I say more?, January 14, 2004
This review is from: V Special Edition (Hardcover)
At first I was unsure if this book would be right for me, but I gave it a go and am glad I did. This is one of the most intresting books I have read in a long time. Even if your views are not the same as those presented in this book, it does open your eyes to other possibilities.
