5.0 out of 5 stars vtech i6765 2 handset cordless telephone system
The Vtech Model i6765 is a fine 2 handset, caller ID, answering machine, speakerphone. It lacks the Full color wallpaper screen that some other models have, but for our use, that's just gingerbread that wasn't necessary. Voice clarity of the dual handsets is excellent, as is the message reproductions. The ability to record and announce messages to other family members...

This review is from: V-Tech Cordless Dual Handset with Digital Answering System and Caller Id (Office Product)
The ability to record and announce messages to other family members is a plus. The Fifteen minutes combined message storage is a bit less than other models but seems adequate for most needs. The 50 Name/Number capacity of the directory also is less than some other models but I believe it to be adequate for most users. The orange back-lit Caller Id screen was unique to me, but I think it is clear and I like it.
The negative features I`ve found are as follows:
The plastic wall mount bracket did seem a bit flimsy at first, however having mounting it to the wall, I believe it will do the job a long time, as long as the unit doesn't receive a major blow. That major blow would no doubt wipe out a sturdier bracket also. Likewise, I wonder if the handset belt clips will have a long life if used regularly. The User's manual is pretty well written, but one thing I found is that the character chart, that is to be used for entering names for the phone numbers in the directory, doesn't include the space. It is available, but it is not a character in the chart. It is entered with the up arrow key, (the down arrow key is backspace). It would have saved me a little time if I had found that information in the manual. The battery performance is given as being, 7 hours talk time and 3 Days on Standby. (Attn Vtech: Can't we do a bit better than that? The first Cordless I had in 1987 lasted a week on standby).
Summing up, there are some models with more bells and whistles than this model, but it does include the ones necessary for the average household, at a reasonable price and I do like it and recommend it highly.

I exchanged it for another thinking this was a freak problem. After a few weeks the same thing happened to the new phone. Now I'm temporarily swapping the batteries between handsets every couple of days just to keep the main phone charged. I just looked at some reviews online at epinions.com and all 3 reviews had the same problem. I just wish I saw them before now.

1.0 out of 5 stars Was great... while it worked., April 9, 2007
This review is from: V-Tech Cordless Dual Handset with Digital Answering System and Caller Id (Office Product)
I purchased this product about 6 months ago. Within the first week the first handset stopped working. Got a new battery for it, it still didn't work. I continued to use the remaining phone and the two chargers. Just this week the remaining handset stopped working in the same way. They just behave as though the battery is dead. (Nothing on the LCD, etc) Even if they are sitting on the charger.

Basically, I am forced to buy new phones already. While they were working, I received almost no interference from all the wireless devices in my home/neighborhood. The range was great, and I frequently used the speaker phone and no one could tell I was on speaker.

All in all if the lifespan had been longer than 6 months... this would be a much different review.

The problem with this unit is that we wanted to use a headset/earpiece with the phone, using the 2.5 mm jack. The volume was too low to be useable, couldnt adjust it. We had to return it. If you dont need that feature, it worked fine.

The answering machine is very good and user friendly. I really appreciate the speaker phone when I'm on hold to Time Warner or AT&T.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor phone...., June 1, 2007
This review is from: V-Tech Cordless Dual Handset with Digital Answering System and Caller Id (Office Product)
Like others, wish I read the reviews BEFORE buying! Base phone quit working in less than 6 months, replaced battery, no good....then exchanged it, worked fine for a little while, then quit...again. Now, without a base phone AGAIN! Also, can only listen to messages while at base (not accessable through phones)....very annoying. Do not think I will purchase Vtech POOR QUALITY phones again....and the price wasn't that good either.

These phones work great. They speakerphone is awesome, and the telephone to telephone intercom feature is used daily. This phone lives happily in my 802.11 wireless enabled house, without interfering at all. This was a problem with many other phones, but not these! No static, great range, crystal clear sound and more features than i'll ever use. I do love to be able to pick up the phone anywhere in the house and transfer it to another headset. It works flawlessly, and you don't need a Ph.D to figure out this phones amazing features.

5.0 out of 5 stars V-tek Cordless 4 handset digital answering system w/CID, January 21, 2008
This review is from: V-Tech Cordless Dual Handset with Digital Answering System and Caller Id (Office Product)
Playback speaker volume problems happened, which allowed only a volume 3 to playback no matter how much we increased the volume control past 3, up to volume 8. (the unit is 3 mos. past warrantee period, V-Tek would replace it but only if I paid 15% off the full price)
Our Cats toppled the Base Unit while we were away. Consequently the small, thin, translucent black diaphram, on the face of the base unit speaker, had 'popped' outward. (it appeared to be inflated) This apparently caused the speaker to malfunction. The diaphram is not damaged or loose.
After "Unplugging" and opening the base unit, I extracted the speaker, wired in place, from its cradle (needed to unscrew all screw fasteners in order to access the speaker cradle inside the base unit, taking great care to note where each screw came from) I was intimidated but otherwise managed well enough...Once the speaker diaphram was gently recessed back into its proper position, I "tested" the base unit to confirm that the speaker funtioned properly. Upon plugging the unit back into the wall, I pressed an appropriate playback button and received a true to volume signal..in other words, "it worked !" We still love it for all it's worth.
