I was actually looking for a DECT 2 line phone without an answering machine but it's not available, so I settled for two of these. I like this phone a lot, a logical interface, easy to program and has all the features I need. Reception is excellent and I was able to stay connected from my mail box across the street. Since it runs in a special bandwidth set aside by FCC for cordless phones, there is no interference from any of the electronics I have piled up around it. The handset is lightweight and compact, not much larger than a cell phone. I have had very good luck with Vtech products for many years.

For the price, the phone itself works great, even on speakerphone. The main reason I purchased this phone however, was because the features indicated there is a headset jack; which there is not. Furthermore, Amazon indicated, "People who bought this item also purchased this item: headset". I purchased the headset that was recommeneded and now I have a decent cordless phone and a fairly nice headset that don't work together. Hopefully this helps another person realize the feature info isn't correct.

First phone shipped had a dead LCD. The phone worked, but had no caller id, phone book etc. all of which require the LCD panel. Second example worked well and is an ok phone. Good sound quality and volume. No interference even though it sits directly next to a PC with an wireless network. If not for the defective sample I'd have rated it a 5. Just remember, even though is says, V-Tech, it's not Japanese. It's made in China. We all know about Chinese quality control.

I have used this VTech DECT phone last 2 months and it has excellent voice quality. Much better than previous 2.4GHz phones.

Pro's:
1. Uses DECT and gets crystal clear voice quality.
2. Battery life is very good.
3. Buttons and phone size, feel, weight are perfect.

Con's:
1. Uses rechargeable AA batteries wrapped up into a connector. It would have been much easier if they had simple slots like a digital camera with AA batteries or some Panasonic DECT phones.
2. Low ring tone, can be hard to hear in a big home or with TV on.
3. Lacks some very basic features possible with the existing hardware. Examples: show the current time/date instead of "HANDSET" when phone is not in use, allow locking of keypad to avoid accidental dialing, show battery level indicator all the time and not just just when its low.

If it wasn't for the feature-less software design on this phone, it would have received 5 stars. If you have very low expectations from a phone, this works fine.

VTech: Fire your outsourced cheapo programmers and hire some quality American software developers who understand what customer want & get a quality product. Spend some time, thinking & using your products before putting them for sale.

I picked this phone because it was top-rated by Consumer Reports. The sound quality is very good and free of interference, as would be expected of a DECT 6.0 phone. In addition, the range seems considerably greater than my previous cordless phone. The buttons are easy to use, and the phone/base are compact. There are a few drawbacks to this unit. It is wall-mountable, but the back contains a bracket that tends to slide off during the mounting process. Moreover, the holes don't quite align with the standard pegs for mounting, so the base is a little precarious when mounted. A second problem is that there is no speed dialing. It does have a directory that one can load numbers into, but retrieving a number requires several steps. A third, minor irritant is that the volume of the paging tone is set to the level of the ringer. Thus, if you have the ringer set fairly low, and you need to chase down the handset, you may not be able to hear when paged. Finally, this unit is not expandable, so that you can't purchase additional handsets separately to add to the system. Despite these shortcomings, it is a good basic unit.

The jury is still out on this phone. I like its appearance and works very well most of the time but often, during a call, it gets very staticy and at other times, voices fade in and out. This occurs even when standing next to the base as well as farther away. I have never bought this brand before and only bought it after researching Consumer Reports. It was highly recommended. I can't do the same.

This phone would be great if it wasn't so hard to hear the person on the other side. On 9 out of 10 calls, I have to ask the other person to speak louder because the audio is so quiet on my side.

Other than that, the phone works great. It was easy to set up the phone book and operate the phone. The reception range is good.

If you just want a phone to slip in your pocket this may be fine. But if you like to use a headset, this phone does NOT SUPPORT ONE but its not clear in the description. In fact its misleading that Amazon pairs the phone with a headset as "frequently purchased alongside" addon. There is no jack for a headset. For me this was a deal killer so i sent it back immediately. hassle.

I liked the look of this phone and the basic functionality it offers without an answering machine. My problem is i used the phone for a business phone conference, and 10% of the time the voices would fade out for several seconds until I wonder if I am still connected with the other users, and the voice would come in. Very discouraging. I thought, maybe the long distance or the storm. This never happened on my old phone. But then, same thing happened to me while I was in a local customer service call. All this on my first day using the phone. It is going back ...

I bought the VTech DS6111 trusting the VTech name, and on the sleek styling of the phone and good looks. Bought on a whim at local store. Compared only to the looks of the other phones on display there. This is by far the worst cordless phone I have ever used! Extreme static on the line all the time. My friends and family usually call my home phone only to have me turn on my cell phone and call them back because the conversation is so affected. Terrible, I get mad everytime I have to use it.
