VTech Digital Cordless - Good alternative to cell phones,

This review is from: V-Tech LS6125-2 DECT 6.0 Two Handset Cordless Answering System with Caller ID (Silver/Black) (Office Product)
Purchased the VTech cordless as cell phone reception in our home was at a minimum. Consumer Reports rates this phone very highly (it is either a "best buy" or very high in the rank list). It uses a frequency that does not interfere with cell phones or other in house electronics. The base charges contains an answering machine. Setup is intuitive. The actual phones (2) are light and slim. There is not a lot of plastic to hold on to which took some getting used to. Voice quality is good. Caller ID is included and the phone has a nice menu system for storing numbers. There is also a pager feature that lets you call the other phone within the house...which is nice for multi-story homes. Overall, good phone and I have no complaints after about 2 months of ownership.

We are Vonage customers... plug phone wire into linksys router, and this was easy to set up. Had to move it from orignal location. Although is states no interfence from other devices... the base did not like being next to our wireless printer... hence the instructions to keep at least four feet away from electronic units. So I had to get it away from that. Since I did that... we've had beautiful clear converstions with others. We had been using a cell as a home phone... but coverage was frustrating... seemed to be dependent on weather. I digress... anyway, you can program one phone with numbers, automatically programs other phone. Mailbox easy enough to set up. A phone is a phone is a phone... but conversations are crystal clear... I sometimes wonder if I'm still connected with someone because the receiver is SOOO quiet when the other person is not talking. Handsets range is not a problem upstairs or down. Would buy again.

I got this phone system about 4-6 months ago, and having to replace it already. The reception on them was great, but the battery life was awful. I followed the mfgr's instructions for initial charge, but since then, the charge on the phone (sitting idle) will not even last 10 hours. If we forget to place them on the cradle before bed, they do not work in the morning. And now, one of the handsets displays "check battery". Do not recommend this phone.

I did a lot of research on cordless phones when my less than 1-year-old Motorola started giving me terrible service and the batteries died much too quickly. (Why is it that Motorola makes such superb cell phones but not cordless ones?) In the end this one looked like it had the most positive reviews and the features I was looking for. I didn't really need a two handset system, as I live in a very small house and I'm not handicapped, but it seems most good cordless varieties come this way, so that was a small, negligible factor. It increases cost a bit and sure, it'd be nice to be able to buy just the main unit, but it's not enough to be a dealbreaker.
I've found so far that it's a great phone. I've had it for about five months or so. The battery is still pretty long-lived, and I can leave it off charge for quite a few days without a recharge. I don't talk for long periods of time for the most part, but the few lengthy uses have not run the battery down any faster than I would expect. I don't have caller ID so I can't speak to those features. One of the main concerns I had was the keypad, and if dialing would be a challenge without spacing in between keys -- the keys are excellently seated and I have had no trouble using the keypad. It has outstanding volume even on speakerphone and my father, using his new phone for hearing impaired folks, hears me even better now with this phone. Between these two phones I don't even have to yell anymore. The blue backlighting is pleasant and easy to read, and the phone itself is really pretty stylish and modern. It's so thin and lightweight that it's a pleasure to hold (although a lot harder to put between your shoulder and chin if you have to use your hands!). The answering machine is outstanding, and offers the number of calls, which was a major point in my decision to buy -- I'm amazed at how few phone/answering machines don't show the number of calls on the recording. Audio is crisp and clear, and buttons are all self-explanatory and programming is easy to figure out. Handset battery makes clear sounds that it is dying, even if you're on the phone (although the first time I used it at the end of the battery, it didn't for some reason, but subsequent uses at end of battery life were well-beeped). My only issue is a good one, really -- it took some time getting used to, but the 6.0 sound is so clear and so static- or distortion-free that at times, if no one is talking, I think the phone has gone dead. It really freaked me out at first, thinking it had just died in the middle of an important conversation, but once you get used to the clarity, you won't want to go back to older cordless frequencies.

phone has cool looks and range, but if your phone suddenly dies after 2 minutes on the speaker (fresh off the charger) u don't care how it looks. it used to switch off the speaker mode and little battery indicator would start blinking so u could keep talking while looking for another handset and then smoothly switch without loosing call. now it just dies. then I pickup another fully charged handset, try to dial and it either works or just dies right away while trying to dial.

Lousy battery,

Yea, I read the bad battery reviews and figured, "meh, I'll leave 'em in the cradle".
Boy was I wrong. The battery is HORRIBLE. Do NOT underestimate how bad they are. Yes, the phones look cool, sound fine, good range. Impossible to display the time on them even though they timestamp your calls, go figure. But the thing that makes them useless is the battery. Consider yourselves warned.

This phone is great. Everything positive that other's have said, I also agree with. The only thing I HATE about this phone system is, there is NO warning when the phone is going to die on you. I've had cordless phones before that start to beep when the battery was going to die...and at least gave me time to warn the person I was talking to at the time, that I had to switch phones, or whatever. This phone..has NO warning at all. It just..DIES. No beeps, no time at all to react.

It's the worst phone I ever came across!!While in use it gets disconnected automatically displaying the message 'connecting.'Even if fully charged, the battery dies within 25 mins of use and > 15 mins if on speaker. The sound quality of one handset deteriorated within 6 months of purchase. Both incoming and outgoing calls eventually became unclear.
Their customer service is disgusting.....the rep's r rude. They'll just advise on resetting the battery....not ready to replace. Dont buy this product.....its an absolute sham!!!

My previous phone of 5years, finally was put to rest when I purchased this Vi Tech phone system. It is state of the art, slim, works well and is very clear. I am happy with the whole transaction, merchandise and quality. I highly recommend this phone, no complaints here! The answering machine works good also.

I love how it looks, it works well and is pretty easy to use. The only complaint I have is that "missed calls" stays in view until it's filled up. There's no way to delete them manually and I don't like that. Other than that I would recommend it.
