A vampire novel with a unique, modern twist. Wil Boyd is a vampire, but he is also a soldier. He is deployed to Afghanistan and his hunger leads to discovery of his secret. In Boyd, Russell sees a weapon to terrorize the terrorists. This is the first in series.

V is for Vampire Victory January 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I'm a fan of Drinkard's books. I love the fact that he is quite good at writing male as well as female characters. I also love vampire books though I tend to lean toward romance in the genre. This is the story of a vampire in the midst of the war in Afghanistan. Sergeant Wil Boyd has a secret and when Major Vic Russell discovers the Sergeant is not a nut case but in fact a vampire, he has a new weapon.

The story is not all blood, violence and guns. It has a great plot with twists and turns that keep you wanting more. The author delves into what it takes to keep a military unit running in the modern era which our men and women face today. The book offers intrigue and a look into how the surrounding war torn country interacts with our armed personnel.

Choosing a favorite character was difficult and a tossup between Boyd and Russell. I want more of both their stories and though the book reaches a conclusion there is plenty of room to continue the saga. Overall this was a great start to an ingenious tail of a different kind of vampire. Being a novella, it's difficult not to give too much of the story away. V Trooper is well worth the money and I found it easy to give five stars. READ the book!

"V" is for Vampire! December 4, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
The "V" is for vampire! What a great melding of two popular genres; combat and vampire literature. In the novella V Trooper, Thomas Drinkard introduces us to Sergeant Wil Boyd, a soldier with extraordinary, one could say supernatural abilities. The author surrounds him with likable and believable characters and tells a taut, action-filled tale that leaves you wanting more (and hopefully more is coming soon).
For 99 cents, you can't miss with V Trooper!!!

An interesting premise - a vampire soldier - and before "V Trooper" is over, you'll be glad Boyd on your side. He doesn't change into a bat and he doesn't shy away from crosses, but he does have superhuman senses, strength and speed, which make him a lethal weapon for covert missions. He also has the vampire thirst for blood, and that makes him a dangerous animal at times to everyone around him.

Thomas Drinkard plays this well in "V Trooper," by making you constantly aware of the particular dangers of each mission and the persistent dangers of being in a war zone. This is mixed skillfully with the unfathomable danger of having a vampire around - even it he is on your side. The prose is tight and well done. The story moves at a good clip. The premise is carried out perfectly. It's a quick read, not just because it is a novella, but also because the story drives forward with a fixed intensity that makes it hard to put down.

I enjoyed "V Trooper - First Mission" and look forward to the next installment.
