Wanted more of 'J' and less of 'they', but still worth the wait,

After an 8-month delay, we have the highly-anticipated follow up to J's debut.
The solo tracks are what people that love the first album were waiting for. The lyrics, musical variety, golden vocals and overall musicianship are carried over in full effect here, and really could be a Volume II of the first project. The special effects are used more on the vocals here but it doesn't matter because a) we all know J can really sing, and b) it always enhances rather than distracts. What may be jarring to some people that loved J's first effort are the number of guest artists this time around. All are powerhouses, but they really don't do anything special and the songs themselves are more "typical" rather than being creative like you would expect from Brother J. Even cousin Karen Clark-Sheard, as amazing as she is, barely makes an appearance on the track she's a "guest" on. So what's the point? Marketing? You got it! But that's the music biz, and spiritual music is not exempt. Still, AS A WHOLE this really is a 5-star effort from one of the brightest talents on the inspirational music scene today. Will it hold up as well as the first one? I think so. I also think that the inclusion of some of the guest artists will expose J's ministry to people that may not have otherwise heard about him. Case in point: "I'm Not Perfect" with Anthony Hamilton is an ideal example of what a "crossover" song should be. It's not preachy, but it's real and the truth is not watered down one bit. Thank God, Brother J has a remarkable talent for conveying Bible truths in ways that are sensible, rational and sincere. That is refreshing in a time when so many gospel artists go for the beat and "dance all night" lyrics only. (What is gospel music supposed to be about again?) V2 is all good and belongs in your collection.

A Spiritual Bomb!! Like it or not...,

J. Moss does it again.. In true J. Moss form!
This CD is just as tight as the first one. Yeah, some people might have heard it & didn't feel it.. that's fine. This is not made for everyone to like it. Believe it or not, God has a purpose for everything He puts His hands upon. Everyone may not see or share that purpose... but, God does.. & so does J. Moss! Uncomprimised, truth-filled, anointed contemporary Gospel music with a message for the young, as well as the not-so-young (i'm 40). If you loved the last CD, I suggest you grab this one...

Good, but "autotune" overused,

This review is from: V2: The Voice Returns (Audio CD)
This is an overall good cd. I would have preferred if J let his "voice" shine through and used a little less autotune. He sounds like a computer on some of the songs. The lyrics are excellent. I definitely recommend this cd.

Good CD, you will not be disappointed. As the previous reviewer said, the last CD was slightly better in my opinion.

This album has gotten pushed back so many times I forgot that it was coming out today. I heard 2 of the songs on V-103. Although this cd is not better then his last cd. It is still good. My fav is the song with Anthony Hamilton and LET IT GO (real talk).

Album of Progression,
By
This review is from: V2: The Voice Returns (Audio CD)
I've read all 21 reviews here and many of them tend to focus on J. Moss using vocal enhancements or the album not being as good as the last one, etc. Firstly, I want to say that I thought the same too at first until I began to research and evaluate my progress as Christian. Many times with a sophomore album we want the artist to stay who they were and how they were and if they did then we would complain about the fact that they never grew in their musical presentation and how they always sound the same (ergo John P. Kee), so it is refreshing to see someone right in the middle of his spiritual/musical progression knowing that years from now this album will speak volumes to people though it seem abstract and aloof now. What I like about J. Moss is that he seems to not try and put music out there that is not where he is in his life currently. I read one review that said "it sounds like he tried too hard" and I think part of that comments stems from wanting J to stay where he was with V1. And seriously you don't want him to do that. When J's lyrics start to change and his using these ambiguous pronouns as substitutes for Jesus, then let's start writing bad reviews and emails, but J. Moss is hot and I think that sometimes we don't understand the ministry so we think that the only thing left to do is bash it. There are some things that I thought that he could have done better like have his cameo appearances be real cameos and do more hard-cut singing that we are accustomed to (Marvin Winans, I mean c'mon, he's like THE GREATEST), but overall he maintains his hotness and I can't wait for the next one!!!

All That Matters is the Message,
By Chyna Princess (Waterbury, CT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: V2: The Voice Returns (Audio CD)
I seen some previous reviews, and all I can say is all that matters is the message. I really wish that we all could look past the outer and look at the enter. His message about the struggles of life and surrendering of ones self to God is the only thing we should really be thinking about. I have always been a fan and I prefer his more slower tempo songs, which are mainly worship music. He is a person that I can turn on his CD and I dont have to jump to certain songs. When it's time to praise, I praise, and when it's time to worship I'm ready. I thank God for MEN like him who do whatever it takes to let people know that GOD is the only way, and he gives you inspiration to keep going no matter what's going on around you.

No Words....,
This review is from: V2: The Voice Returns (Audio CD)
...and this is the oxy here....There are no words to describe the impact J Moss has had on my life after listening to this album(s)....YET I'm still about to try and express in words what his music has done.......okay, so I am late in writing this review..but the time frame matters not....because the music is still opportune for whatever time, in whatever time you need....I pull it out from time to time just to remind myself that even if I fail....through forgiveness...I'm still a child of God....this is realness at it's best....say what you will...it's a free country.....but you can't listen to these records and not find yourself somewhere.....this is music that can only come from a very real anointing.....and so still I say.... there are no words......
