I received this hp v5040u camcorder as a gift three months ago. It is a red color one. The size is very compact. I carry this camcorder in my packet and use it when I want to shoot video. The resolution is 1040p which can shoot in high definition. I usually save the clips into my PC and sometime play the video right from the hdmi port to my 56" TV.

I previous own a Flip HD recorder. Compared with this hp camcorder, the Flip has less optical zoom in capacity. The hp v5040u can shoot a farther distance than my Flip. And in my opinion, the design of the Flip is not as easy to hold as the hp one and the hp camcorder comes with LCD display adjustable to an angle easier to view the object I am shooting at.

One disadvantage is that this camcorder has very small internal memory and you have to seperately purchase a sd memory card. This is no problem for me since I happen to have a 4gb SD card (need to be class 4 SD card). I also plan to purchase an external charger with additional battery so that I have enough battery power to play with.

Overall, I like my hp camcorder better than my Flip, and might get one as gift to my friends.

I bought this for my daughter who has twin 2yr old boys. She could not get it to work and I'm not sure if she has succeeded yet.
