Great 22" LCD monitor with both DSUB and DVI support,
By Neel (NC, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: V7 D22W12-N6 22-Inch Wide 1000:1 1680X1050 5MS VGA LCD Monitor with DVI-D Spekers (Electronics)
Pros:
1) Great bang for the buck. Contains the same LCD panel as used in other name brand LCDs 2) Not a single bad pixel. 3) Excellent picture quality when setup correctly. I could not distinguish much between DVI and DSUB input. 4) Returned an ACER AL2216W because of a bad bleeding around the edges. This one has the same problem but in a lot reduced manner. All the chimei panels have this issue. Cons: 1) Bad factory setup, colors are overblown. I reduced the brightness, set the contrast close to 50 and reduced the overblown color by going to customised color temperature control and reducing red/blue/green settings individually. 2) No DVI cable in the package.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
First Impression:
This is a very good general use monitor and very adequate for gaming. It is not the fastest, largest or highest resolution, however it is a great bang for the buck monitor. Why -1 star?: As part of Amazon Vine we are given products to test and review. Usually this entails the latest products in a particular category such as books, DVDs or electronics, etc. Which is why when this monitor was offered I thought it would contain much of the latest hardware specs such as HDMI. Being it does not have HDMI that is why I took off one star. All modern monitors should have this as a standard input. Because this is an older model (2009) I am not going to take off any more stars. Now that the bad is out of the way let me cover what is great about this monitor: Pros: + Fast refresh: 5ms grey to grey means that you should have little to no video tearing while playing the latest games + DVI and DSub connector for all legacy video cards + 1000:1 contrast ratio means darker blacks Cons: - Resolution is a bit low for a 22" monitor, I would to have like to see a few hundred pixels in each direction - Speakers are not the best Summary: This is a GREAT monitor for the price. Being every video card these days does still contain DVI there is no chance you will not be able to plug this in, including old DSub connector (15 pin). This is an adequate gaming monitor and should hold up well. Speakers work well enough to listen to sounds if you do not have external speakers. Don't expect swelling sound because these are very small. Tested on: AMD Phenom II 295 3.4GHz Quad Core 8GB DDR3 1600 RAM 2TB 7200 RPM Maxtor Drive EVGA GTX 480 External 5.1 surround speakers

Let's get right to this:
Pros * The 22" screen looks great. Vibrant, bright, decent at angles, and quite crisp. No dead pixels to be found in mine. I can't say enough nice things about the color on this monitor. * Minimal decoration in the bezel means this will fit in nicely on your desk. * VESA standard connections allows for wall-mounting. * VGA and DVI connections both work well and support up to 1050p. * Cord-wrangling base is easy to connect, stable, and solid. * Doesn't seem to put out very much heat. * OSD controls are nice. Instead of labeling the controls on the bezel, the OSD actually lines up the control functions with their corresponding buttons in the corner of the screen. Fairly decent selection of options, including a nice auto-set feature, and different monitor color/contrast schemes. * Relatively lightweight and quite thin. * Buttons are decent. You can tell when you've pressed one. Cons * Limited connection options compared to other displays. No HDMI, no component, no optical audio; This is definitely a budget monitor. * Speakers aren't really that good; They're really tinny. You're better off with external speakers, because these shouldn't even count as "speakers". * Ships with no film over the monitor, which is odd. Most LCD panels have a protective film. While mine was in perfect condition, I could see the lack of this film causing shipping problems for some people. * 16:10 format is acceptable, but rapidly becoming outdated compared to 16:9 LCD panels. 16:10 means your 16:9 media will have black bars at top and bottom, or be stretched out- Be aware of this if you intend to use this for a video game console or other media device. * Sensitive to electromagnetic devices in the immediate area. My electric fan caused the monitor to "wave" or "flicker", while my brand-name monitor has no problems with the same fan at the same distance. I suspect one area where they save money is in the amount of shielding they used. I was pleased with the value represented here. This monitor's display looks every bit as good as my brand-name LCD panel's display, and while it's not as versatile, it works great if you're using VGA or DVI sources that are comfortably viewed in 16:10 format. Computers, of course, are the perfectly fine on this monitor. The base is simple, yet sturdy. I was very pleased by the fact that this has the proper connections on the back to attach a wall mount kit; I didn't expect that in a budget monitor. Overall, this is an excellent value if you're looking for a nice balance between cost and size for an LCD display. 22" is nothing to balk at, and this monitor looks gorgeous, even on a VGA connection. Highly recommended. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because it lacks HDMI connectivity, which is starting to become the de facto standard for everything. If you want to use HDMI, you'll need to get an adapter to use this monitor... However, considering the price, that still might be worth it! I'd also like to add that, at least with mine, I was pleased to get an LCD panel that had zero dead pixels and minimal bleed out-of-the-box. This really is a gorgeous screen.
