I decided I wanted a stand up desk several months ago after reading a couple articles on the health benefits. I found some cardboard boxes around the office and propped my 2 monitors, laptop, and keyboard on a makeshift stand up desk. That worked great for a couple months! The first week was the hardest, but it quickly got easier. The biggest pain was the fact that it would be too much work to disassemble and reassemble it if I wanted to sit for a short amount of time. So I just stood all the time, which wasn't convenient. A couple weeks ago, my cardboard makeshift desk collapsed in on itself. Fortunately, there was no damage to anything, but that incident convinced me it was time for the real deal. I'd been standing long enough to know it wasn't just another one of my whims.

We ordered this desk and it came a day earlier than anticipated. Setting it up was cake. There's no assembly. I got everything setup in 15 mins, and it was back to work. I love the desk. I'm 5'10" (1.78 meters), and this desk is the ideal height for me at it's highest setting, so I can understand why taller people have given the desk negative reviews. My review may not have been as good if I was a couple inches taller myself. For my height, it's perfect. I've posted a couple pictures so you can get an idea of what it looks like. The second picture I posted shows how the desk looks next to me, a 5 foot 10 inch guy.

Some have said the desk is unstable. The monitors do shake a little when I pound away at the keyboard, and I'm detracting one star for that. I wouldn't call it "unstable" though since I don't see any chance of it falling or of anything falling off of it. It's only a minor inconvenience. I adapted quickly.

I just got this. No setup required -- just needed someone to help put it on my table (you'll want a sturdy table or desk). I put my big screen monitor, laptop on stand, keyboard, and mouse on it and still had room for a cup of tea and note cube.

It moves up and down so easily! And it's stable even at its tallest -- not that I can lean too heavily on it.

I love the keyboard tray with plenty of room for wireless keyboard and mouse -- whether standing or sitting down.

I had doubts I could stand for long, but spent most of the first day doing so. I found myself moving and fidgeting and more likely to walk around. Best of all my hip didn't hurt from sitting in one place for 10 hours.

I suggest you pare down number of cables, as you have to make sure not to pinch them when moving up and down. Also get a monitor stand that allows you to raise and lower it easily. Finally, get a mat to stand on and shoes with good support.

I am 6' tall and the height of the keyboard tray is a little low for me, even when at it's max height. The idea is great since it gives you more room on the upper desk for note pads without needing that room for the keyboard and mouse or having to move them off when you go to stand. It would be much better with an adjustable keyboard tray for all heights.

I can see a weekend project in the works for me to bring the keyboard up a little so my arms are parallel with the floor. Also if your monitors have small bases you'll be looking down at them so you'll probably need lifts for those as well. Not all monitors have such high bases like they do in the photos on the site.

The desk is easy to operate. Going from standing to sitting and vice versa is effortless. I'll give it 3 stars because of the ease of use and the fact that you have a place to put not pads, your coffee and anything else without having to move them around every time you switch positions. But because of the keyboard height and the general lack of height difference between the keyboard and the monitors I can't say it's the best out there. I would make sure the desk you are putting this on is high enough so your monitors are at the right height or you'll need to invest in additional stands for those as well and possibly something for the keyboard when standing.

We just ordered 3 more for our office after testing the first one (Varidesk Single). Once you get it set up, it is very easy to lift and lower the desk. There is plenty of room for a 24" monitor, and space if you need to take notes while using the computer. A few things to consider if you are thinking about buying:

If you use a monitor, you may still need to use something to adjust the height of your monitor. My monitor can be adjusted up and down. I find I need to lower it all the way down in the sitting postion and raise it a few inches in the standing postion. Some of my coworkers who do not have adjustable height monitors keep something handy to put under the monitor (books, ream of paper...) to raise as needed.

Definitely get a floor mat. Thickness counts. We ended up purchasing several that were made for beauty salons - 1" thick polyurethane- and were more reasonably priced than the one offered by Varidesk.

A wireless keyboard and mouse will work best. You can make the wired version work, but it is a little more effort.

If you have a desk top computer, give some thought to where it will sit in relation to the Varidesk and the legths of the cords needed for when you are in standing mode.

The keyboard tray on the Plus models is not adjustable (which would probably aleviate the monitor height issue) and it wasn't clear from the description.

The Veridesk customer service was very friendly.

Overall, we are happy with the product and I would reccomend it. (The app just popped up and told me to sit down for a while and how many calories I've burned standing. What's not to like about that?)
