This was perfect for my Italy trip. The 3 prong (grounded) adapter worked in Rome and in Florence. Italy has both 2 prong (non ground) and 3 prong (ground) outlets. This is a must have for Italy as the European 2 prong (non grounded) adapter does not work in Italy. The width of the 2 prong adapter for Europe is not the same width as the 2 prong adapter for Italy.

I used the Italy 3 prong adapter to charge my curling iron, cell phone travel charger and digital camera battery charger. All of my devices were dual voltage which supports the U.S. as well as foreign voltage requirements. This means I did not have to tote around a voltage converter. I needed the adapter only.

This product fits most grounded outlets in Italy. If you have grounded devices such as laptops, this is an improvement over a 2 pin adaptor.

What it does not do:
1) It does not transform power. It just passes through 220v power. If you need 120v, you need to buy a transformer. (Read your power adaptor. Many laptops and camera battery chargers can take both 120v and 220v power. Some cannot. Do not plug a 120v device into this plug without a transformer.)

2) Occasionally one finds a recessed plug in Italy. The dimensions of this adaptor will not fit into the recessed plug.

3) In older buildings one may find non-grounded outlets. You will need a 2 prong adaptor to fit these outlets.

4) I have never run into plugs in Italy with prong spacing other than what comes with this adaptor however elsewhere in Europe there are different spacings.

I have 2 of these grounded adaptors and also carry 2 two prong adaptors and a transformer that transforms 220v to 120v current with me when I go to Italy. The 2 prong adaptors are good for non-grounded applications such as most battery chargers for camera batteries. The 2 prong adaptors can be plugged into most if not all grounded plugs in Italy.

I recommend both types of adaptors if you are going to Italy and need grounded plugs for some of your applications. If you have no devices that require grounding there would be no need for a grounded adaptor. My laptop requires a grounded connection.

I know a lot of people have written that it's not the right outlet adapter and they were disappointed. Just a heads up - I lived in Italy and can tell you that Italy has 2 common outlets and another less common outlet. This is the MOST COMMON of the 3 types, but depending on your stay, especially if you are staying at multiple locations around the country, you may need the other types of adapters as well. Generally I recommend this 3-prong for travelers, it is the most common and most popular on travel websites, and my experience confirms this. If you're staying at a hotel or B&B I would write ahead to inquire, most places will kindly give you an answer.

The Universal plug adaptor worked everywhere in Tuscanny except in the ancient hotel of Adler Cavalieri where the receptacle was round and recessed. But it worked great everywhere else.

Just got back from our trip to Italy. I had bought one of these plug adapters and it worked fine in the first hotel, but our second hotel room had recessed circular outlets. These types of outlets would not fit this square adapter. I'm uploading an image to the "user images gallery" for this product to illustrate the problem. Anyway, I had also seen slimmer rectangular shaped plug adapters and wish I had chosen one of those instead. I would highly recommend you choose one of the slimmer rectangular options instead of this boxy one. Essentially this adapter will only work in the style of power outlets that are flush to the face plate.

Italy is a mixed bag and it all depends on the building you are plugging into. Some will have the two prongs, some will have the three. Some of the three prongs will accept either the two or three prong, etc. MY hotel had the three prong but i noticed their lamps only had the two. I bought two of these and they worked perfectly: laptop, phone, and battery chargers.

Will you NEED these? Maybe, maybe not, but worth the investment - works great.

SIDE NOTE: if you are new to travel, there is a difference between an ADAPTER and a CONVERTER. This is an adapter and will not convert power so make sure any electornic you plug into a European outlet is able to withstand 240Volts otherwise it will blow up.

Delivered on time, worked perfectly (almost) in Italy.
It seems that there are some different prong spacings within Italian homes...I never quite figured them out.

It's very misleading to say THIS ADAPTER WILL CONVERT ANY PLUG TO ITALIAN GROUNDED PLUG because it did not work with my laptop plug or my camera plug. However, to its credit, it did work with my cell phone charger but i have no plan to bring it to Italy!

Went on vacation to Italy for 10 days and this adapter worked like a charm. No issues what so ever.

I bought 2 of these for my trip to Italy this past summer! (one in the bathroom and one in the living room). What a life saver! Worked GREAT! No issues what so ever! Now I just need to plan a new trip so I can use them again!!!
